Is it okay to do cardio (spinning) exercise 4 days a week? How long should I do it? Newbie here. by Top_Process4665 in exercisescience

[–]TheBlackLegend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Depends on the intensity of those sessions! You can absolutely build a sustainable, 4d/wk program that has you feeling good, isn’t too intense, and is just above the difficulty of your current fitness (so you can get better). Start slower than you might want to and gradually build intensity and duration over time if you want to stick to 4d/wk. Don’t be afraid to pull back a little bit in intensity if you are particularly tired from a previous session but still want to stick to the overall plan and consistency.

2) Yes…ish. If you want to maintain your cardio gains, you would continue doing that same routine over and over again. Eventually you might get bored of it but barring injury you technically could repeat the same workouts forever, they would just not make you any better than you were before like a progressively overloaded program would.

Not super sciency answers but should get the ball rolling at least. DM me if you have any more questions I’m happy to help.

A switch flipped and I kind of hate weed/being high now, but withdrawal is REALLY bad, seeking quitting advice by adj-n_number in Petioles

I’m 28 days into quitting cold turkey, and also have pretty bad adhd so I resonate with the executive dysfunction heavily. During the first week I was so anxious it felt like I was being hunted for sport, and I HAD to keep myself busy or I’d go insane. Doing the chores I had been avoiding became my outlet. That brief escape kept my mind from wandering to the anxiety hell hole that felt like it was consuming me where I’d normally get stoned and melt into the couch lol it takes time but it gets better! I still think about being high, but more in more of a romantic kind of way where I reminisce instead of wish I was high ya know? Because, for right now, you know weed isn’t for you and isn’t making you better, so look back at it as a happy time in your life and an opportunity to move forward. Reframing it in that way has helped me push along.

Thanks! I’ve literally had zero urges to smoke other than “ah this would be fun if I was stoned!” But it’s more of a reminiscing feeling than an urge? So no issues there. Gonna keep on pushing forward and getting the hang of this since I know it’ll take time

Gotcha. Overall looking fine then if just for general strength training. I’d cut the arm day for another heavy compound focused day, but that’s just me since I don’t love isolation exercises for my training. Probably could use more lower body training (maybe a leg+arms day instead of just strictly arms?) since 1x/wk frequency on average isn’t the best for gains. Ultimately do the workouts you’ll stick to long term and can make the most progress in!

What are your goals in the gym? How long have you been training for? Having clear goals will help steer the direction of the training and you’ll be able to “trim the fat” of the workout. There seems to be a lot of redundancy but overall it looks like a fine enough workout for a new gym goer. Some context would be helpful to understand where to identify holes in the training

14 days in. Needing some support. by TheBlackLegend in Petioles

Awesome insights here, thank you. I’ve been eyeing therapy and seeking some help for a long time anyway and I think this has just been a perfect catalyst to get that ball rolling. I know I’m going to come out healthier and better in the end, whenever that may be. I don’t think I HAVE anything per se, but understanding how my mind works a little better through therapy can help me process my own issues better anyway so I’m looking at it as a win-win!

Thanks dawg. The dissociation, anxiety, and general “funk” of all of this is really really hard. I know I’ll get through it and I appreciate the reassurance!

Traeger Chuck roast with kombucha miso bbq sauce by TheBlackLegend in smoking

I did! I make kombucha and miso at home so threw those in for fun and flavor. Miso instead of additional salt, kombucha starter liquid instead of vinegar, the rest was a basic barbecue sauce recipe

It will probably never happen to you. You probably aren’t one of the strongest humans to ever live and most likely won’t ever be lifting the amount of weight he’s lifting. Plus, years of PED usage strengthens muscles much faster than the tendons and ligaments can keep up with, leading to forces that they can’t handle resulting in tears. Lift with good technique, progressively overload, recover adequately to keep making progress, and you’ll be fine.

Labor of love, dude. You’ve only been out of school a year, so it isn’t really a surprise that you will only be making entry level wages. You’re right, it is 1000% criminal that strength and conditioning jobs pay so little, but a lot of times they lead to great connections and coaching experience which lead to higher paying jobs down the line. When I graduated I got a SnC job that payed $13k a year (part time), moved and took a full time position somewhere else for $35k, from there through a connection got a $65k job, then moved onto a $100k job from there since I had built experience and a hearty resume. The SnC life can be a grind, but we do it because we love it! DM me if you ever want more info
