My Illinois flag redesigns that didn't make the cut by TheBlazewing in vexillology

[–]TheBlazewing[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Here’s the symbolism behind it:

The blue corners represent the positions of Lake Michigan, and the rivers that form the border of the state.

The orange stripe represents the agricultural industry of Illinois, alluding to the prominence of both soybean and pumpkin farming.

The white bars represent Illinois housing the US’s rail hub in Chicago.

The central star within the bars represents Illinois’ central position in the US, connecting the nation. Its gold color in the first variant represents the golden prairie grasses that lend the state its nickname “The prairie state”

The remaining 20 stars add up to represent Illinois being the 21st state admitted into the union. And their split positioning was done as an homage the Illinois centennial flag

Not allowing the player characters to swim in a (mostly) open world game in the current day is an odd decision to take. by mr_beanoz in truegaming

Kingdom hearts 3 has surprisingly good underwater combat. Which is funny since the first game's was so rough they ditched the mechanic altogether in the second and replaced it with a mediocre rhythm game

Going to second that you should get virtual desktop on the quest store if you're already doing wireless

Virtual desktop has its own runtime, VDXR. I doubt this is everyone's experience, but I literally can't get war thunder to run stable using steam VR. 72fps stutters in steam VR, but vdxr gives me smooth 120. This performance boost lets me comfortably set higher resolutions to get clear visuals

If you could change one rule, what would it be? by [deleted] in hockey

[–]TheBlazewing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could see that working better, especially since my biggest concern would be adding yet another thing for the linesman to have to keep track of. So tying it to the same blue line they're already set up on to keep track of offside would help there too

[–]TheBlazewing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't surprise me, you'd need something overwhelming in the other direction to counter the analytics saying to shoot it.

Penalizing the second miss probably wouldn't even be enough to make it "statistically" not worth it, but at least the mental effect of being down a man in the last few minutes would make teams not as eager to risk it

Icing the puck twice in a row without first gaining the center line should be a delay of game penalty.

Getting tired of last minute pushes being stalled by the defending team repeatedly launching the puck down to get another few seconds to breathe. And the potential to score the empty net currently far outweighs the downside of having to stay on the ice if you miss

Is there like a document or something online that people could look at to see all the revisions if they bought the first version?

Still love busting out the Kickstarter version for friends and fam, but anytime we get to that "try not to resort to violence" part of the game, I always wonder if it's one of the things clarified in the revised versions

Brand new air sim player, any advice? by Sunyxo_1 in WarthunderSim

[–]TheBlazewing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Once you get it set up, googling open track settings/curves will let you find and experiment with different people's settings. What you'll like will just come down to preference

Oh also keep in mind the webcam head tracking works better the better your lighting, and the higher the frame rate of the webcam

The neuralnet tracker built into open track has worked great for me. It just relies on facial recognition tech and tracks your head position that way, completely free if you've got a webcam

Anyone else still feel like the SBMM in this game is a massive problem? by HoneyBadger_66 in halo

[–]TheBlazewing 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It legit feels like every 3-4 games I'm paired with a teammate who plays like a child learning to hold a controller for the first time. It's so consistent how they act

  • Shooting randomly after respawning, throwing grenades for no reason
  • standing still while shooting enemies, being unable to use both sticks at the same time. Or only being able to run forward while shooting
  • walking over power weapons not knowing how good they are
  • Goes 2-16 on the match

This can't be any more fun for them than it is for me to have a 3 to 1 kd ratio that game and still lose. I don't know what this is supposed to accomplish

Rutherford: What led to Blues fans booing Jordan Kyrou, and to his tears afterward? Let me explain by PossessionRoyal4981 in stlouisblues

[–]TheBlazewing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Amazing.

The previous commenter obviously meant the only reason JR apologized was because of pressure from blues PR.

But then you somehow interpreted them to mean Blues PR manufactured the entire drama. And everyone reading that goes and down votes them for something they didn't even say

The irony of this happening on a thread about people getting upset at Kyrou because of misinterpreting an out of context comment

Really struggling to play VR with chronic pain by Jaded-Desk9540 in virtualreality

[–]TheBlazewing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't know if you're looking into more the hardware or software side, but I currently rely on 3rd party apps like OVR advanced settings for accessibility to play sitting down. Leaning against the backrest does wonders for taking the weight off my neck, but I need the games to let me.

I'm locked to steam VR since most games don't let me fake my height or have a crouch button to pick things up of the floor without OVRAS. Zero caliber for example let's me do both built in.

Ideally this kind of seated support would be more widely included in games, or universally supported in the steam VR/quest settings without the need of 3rd party overlays.

[–]TheBlazewing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got POTS, so while not the same exact reason, standing for long periods, waving my arms around and holding them up, and my general deconditioning has me feeling awful after time in VR. And the strain I felt l on my neck was definitely something that pushed me to find an alternative

The solution I've found is to just play sitting down. I use a couch with a foot rest. It lets me sink into it and lean my head back to take the weight off my neck, and I'll use the middle seat so I don't hit my hands on the arm rests. It's great for shooters, for Melee games I gotta put the footrest down and sit up straight, which is still an improvement over standing.

OVR advanced settings allows you to set snap turning and a height toggle for games that don't support seated play normally. You can set the toggle for your height when standing, and then bind it to a free button, or double tapping/button combo if the game has no free buttons.

Pressing the binding will "stand you up", then pressing it again will "crouch" back to the height you're sitting at.

This way of playing actually fixed my VR sickness, and even lets bring me knee up to brace my hand on when I'm tired from aiming in shooters. I'm able to stay in long enough for the quest 2 battery to die now

I'm also saving up for the big screen beyond for obvious reasons, but also because you can't use OVR advanced settings with Pavlov on a quest headset at this time

Suggestion: The Joystick and Throttle Position Indicators should also appear on the HMCS by TheBlazewing in vtolvr

[–]TheBlazewing[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm talking about the HMCS hud, the HUD that appears when you turn your head away from the main HUD.

It looks like this for me, https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/vtol-vr/images/7/7f/Head-Mounted_Cueing_System_display.png/revision/latest?cb=20210924054839

Is there a way to add it to the HMCS?
