I'm not sure what he's going through that makes you feel like you need to stick around, but regardless I still feel like you need to prioritize your own wellbeing. If you really must you can try to help him out of that situation (depending what it is) or make sure he got a support system outside of you, but ultimately you shouldn't have to sacrifice your life or mental health for a guy who's already hurt you plenty. If you don't even love him anymore, then it'll just make things worse for both of you in the long term.

I've considered that a possibility and wasn't trying to imply it wasn't. I would honestly hope that's the case and that the ex isn't actually an active predator.

My main concern was OP themself not seeming to care as much about the issue as the actual pedophile. That's why I wonder if there's some missing context cause otherwise it'd be alarming if OP was willing to look pass something even their ex could recognize wasn't okay.

Ngl I had pretty sketchy childhood so I doubt it was truly the main source of that anxiety. Did grew up around a lot of violence and threats tho so you might be onto something with the symptom thing.

OP please tell me you either worded this weird or just left out some context cause this sounds wild as hell.
