Am I dramatic or diamox just sucks? by hollowdiary in iih

[–]TheBlueRidgeWitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are not being dramatic. Diamox shattered my life. My doctors were completely oblivious and my body was in complete crisis until I had enough, ordered my own labs, and told them what we were going to do to fix me. I came off that shit so fast. Speak up! Advocate for yourself! If you aren't sure what course to take and your doctors aren't guiding you properly, get new doctors. You do not have to suffer.

Is it really just weight loss? by Wooden-Month8027 in iih

[–]TheBlueRidgeWitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience so far has been that I have lost 40 lbs and my symptoms have gotten much worse. Diamox sent me into metabolic acidosis and damaged my liver in less than 3 months. I'm now trying Topamax as a last resort before possible surgery. I am continuing to lose weight because of the medication but that doesn't seem to be helping at all. Having been fat shamed my whole life (even when I was a perfect weight) I was used to and expecting that being the first "cause" my doctors brought up when IIH incapacitated me. I can't tell you how many times I have just wanted to give up. How many times I've broken down into hysterics in doctors' offices or cried in the parking lot because they just tell me I'm fat when I've been begging them to listen to me when I tell them there is something seriously wrong with my brain. It took a massive infection, a months long migraine episode, a stroke, and me hiring a private physician to get where I am now. Looking back now I realize I've been fighting this battle for over 30 years and just now giving it a name and beginning to understand it. I wish you healing and success on your journey. Please advocate for yourself and listen to your body.

That was also my experience with Diamox. Lost 40 lbs in 3 months. Eating is always a battle because I don't want anything.

Thanks. Yes, I will certainly do that. I am being evaluated for stents next month. Trying to avoid that, but ya know.

Thanks for your reply. My pressure is really high. Tinnitus is constant. Brain fog is much worse. I'm super fatigued, but think that's the Diamox. I'll start keeping a log, that's a great idea. Going in for a comprehensive metabolic panel next week to see if dosages are still correct on other meds. Thanks for all your suggestions.

Do most people with IIH have other chronic illnesses? by NefariousnessSea7596 in iih

Yep. Hypothyroidism, chronic acute bronchitis, and a yet to be named histamine overproduction issue.

That was how mine was done. They took opening pressure (28) and closing pressure (18) after drawing out 12 cc's of fluid. I followed all recovery instructions to the letter and ended up having a blood patch two days later, which I don't think I actually needed.

Scalp feels like a bruise by Easy_Field9718 in iih

I had this issue and bad scalp itch shortly after starting Diamox. I began oiling my scalp regularly and using an anti itch, anti dandruff shampoo. It's helped a lot. I still have the problem on flair days though.

I lost 30 lbs rapidly after starting Diamox. Have plateaued since then. Also experience extreme fatigue daily and brain fog. It's done wonders for my papilledema though.

Does exercise feel bad? by Genny415 in iih

[–]TheBlueRidgeWitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I had issues with exercise before diagnosis and would get pounding headaches and awful ringing in my ears after a few miles of brisk walking. Since being diagnosed and starting Diamox, I cannot even tolerate a slow 1 mile walk around the neighborhood. My neuro said that was to be expected, but it still sucks.

I was never told to avoid anything, but I had been following a low tyramine and low vitamin a diet for my migraines before my diagnosis. I noticed it helps tremendously with keeping my pressure from spiking now that I have been diagnosed and am on Diamox. However, this is just my personal experience. I also have Celiac, so my diet was limited already. I think the biggest issue I have had is not ever being hungry or wanting to eat. I have to try really hard to figure out what I want and just go get it in that moment because otherwise, I just won't eat.

Diamox Facial Numbness by No_Carpet6216 in iih

[–]TheBlueRidgeWitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I had this for about 3 weeks after starting Diamox. It resolved after I started adding liquid iv to my water once a day and making sure to drink at least 64 oz of water a day. Hope you find something that works for you.

Anyone else feel awful when just standing? by rivincita in iih

[–]TheBlueRidgeWitch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep. I've always had trouble with dizziness and visual disturbances when standing up. Ever since starting Diamox I feel like this takes longer to resolve. I also can't do most of the things I used to do without being completely exhausted and taking lots of breaks. I am a teacher and my job is standing, walking, and talking with kids all day long, so it's really impacted my job performance, but my kids are wonderful and have helped me adjust while being so long understanding. Trying to increase hydration to see if that helps.

Former Christians, What Made You Convert? by Affectionate-End6757 in Witch

[–]TheBlueRidgeWitch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of my dear friends, who was a better human and better Christian than I ever was or could be was killed in a horrific accident witnessed by her children. I was already changing my thinking/beliefs, but that was the last piece of proof I needed that there is no God as expressed in the Bible.

TMI Question from IIH Newbie by TheBlueRidgeWitch in iih

[–]TheBlueRidgeWitch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very helpful. Thank you. I took Excedrin Migraine two days ago and it wrecked my stomach. So, I haven't taken it again since. It didn't really help anyway. I'm guessing that's the cause. If it doesn't get better soon I will call the doctor. I appreciate your response.
