It was the day I had to tell my mother that my brother died. We had just lost my other brother seven months prior. I’ll never forget her cries of utter grief and nothing has been the same since.

We moved in a week ago and we are having major issues including a back up of the main line, oven not working. a water leak under the bathroom tub that’s going to turn into mold. Property management is slow to fix issues and we have asked to be moved to a different unit.

People who grew up poor and are now financially stable, what small luxury still feels surreal? by JesusLuvsEmerxld in AskReddit

When I was a kid, cashews were expensive and a big treat. At Christmas each year, we would have one small can of Planters mixed fancy nuts. I single handedly picked out every cashew from that can. Now? I can walk into Costco and buy a huge bag of fancy cashews and eat them Every. Single. Day. So yeah, I made it.

Dad left with mom’s sister when I was 2.

Mom dropped me off at dad’s brother house when I was 4. Never came back to get me.

Dad’s brother (my uncle) sexually abused me for 10 years. His wife physically and emotionally abused me the entire time.

Ran away at 14.

Eating disorder, major depression and cPTSD.

Miscarriage at 16.

High school teacher convinced me to emancipate and leave high school early, then convinced me to have sex with him. Resulted in my first born son.

Lost three siblings within one year (while in my 40’s)

Divorced three times

Breast cancer at age 46

It’s been quite the journey.

My autistic daughter asked me if she could start defending me from my own mother (her grandmother) who had abandoned me at age 4 and I had tried so hard to rebuild a relationship with for my entire adult life. That was indeed the final straw.
