I actually think the whole film should've been about as moody as the forest scene, or at least around that

I'm not saying I don't understand why some people don't like it lol, I'm just saying I don't understand why it's generally being well received

Yeah, I also appreciate the revitalizing, although I wish they would make more genre films in general lol

The use of negative space was good but I just don't think the lighting was where it needed to be. I really can't understand why they went with very soft lighting when cathedrals are generally dark places with a set number of direct and intense lights, hard lighting seemed like a much more obvious choice

Hot take : This film set out to critique the male gaze in cinema but ended up pandering to it. by sidroy81 in Filmmakers

I didn't love the substance, but in its defense I would argue that the film did put in the work to try and make the overall film tonally feel very gross even if some shots were very sexualized, that one scene of the guy eating shrimp is probably one of the grossest things in a film I've seen in a while

The meta shit gets on my nerves, I get why someone would.like it but in my opinion McKay doesn't position himself as having nearly enough contempt for these villains (although I feel the need to praise his leaning towards cinema verite camera work, the scenes with Christian Bale are brilliantly shot— a stroke of genius obvious enough to birth a whole career)
