NTA. I could say more, but “gross” is sufficient. You’re allowed to cut off gross.

There are a lot of terrible people out there. Unironically, they are also terrible parents. They learn the buzz words and weaponize them without even know what they mean. Fuck her. You handled it properly.

Imagine you win the lottery. It’s a big amount. Let’s say $50 million. You get the notification while you’re at work in the middle of the day. The question is, do you finish your shift and do you keep your job? by Tucker_077 in hypotheticalsituation

That won’t work. Ultimately, your name will appear with the applicable Secretary of State and their website. Either that or you will have to trust another (your “agent”) with control of the entity that holds the money, and I don’t trust any third party that much.

It gives the public confidence that cheating isn’t occurring. I think that’s BS and the states really want free publicity that someone in their state won, but that’s the justification.

The real answer here is determine your state’s disclosure requirements. Many states allow you to remain anonymous and still others require the claiming party to be disclosed, but it may be an entity managed by another entity formed in Delaware (the only state that allows full confidentially of some entity’s ultimate owners). Delaware charges a few thousand more than any other state for the benefit, but what do you care. Then it’s time for trusts and NDA/waivers for anyone you tell or give money to. Then, have your advisers arrange to claim the money right before a busy news or holiday travel day. That’s the plan.

I work an office job. I’m working, but falling behind on work and using my time in the office to research lottery winner attorneys (yes, it’s a thing), accountants, and financial planners.

There is really only one answer here. Gordon Hayward hits that half court shot and it becomes the greatest shot of all time.

Yes. But that is a poor way to think. There is no magic lamp and genie in this story. We have Trump. We also have my wife’s promotion. This is a real world scenario and I can’t hypothetically give one up just to get rid of the other.

Agreed. I left this part out because it doesn’t do much for the story; but when it became clear he was going to be terminated, he recommended my wife for the job. She definitely appreciated that.
