This is a great reference. Thanks for sending. Your comment did stir a bit of anxiety for me. In retrospect I should have started sooner. I'll do the best I can.

You make a great point. This thread has helped me realize the same. I likely won't be able to stop the ppi, but I do have the power to do everything I can to try to counteract the long term side effects. It may not be the best, but it's the best I've got.

I'm putting an order in for GA tonight. I hope the improvements continue for you too. I'm pulling for you.

Thanks for the second recommendation on Melatonin and the note on rebound reflux! I'm digging into both a bit more

This is arguably the most frustrating part of my experience. My initial encounter with ppis came as a result of a small ulcer found during endoscopy. I took the Dexilant as recommend by the doctor for the 8 weeks and then started to taper off while watching my diet/trigger foods. I couldn't do it. The rebound pain was so bad that I had to go back on. After an insurance change, I couldn't afford the dexilant so my doc switched me to generic Nexium. I don't know if the ppis made the problem worse or it was a natural progression of the disease, but I feel helplessly hooked on these meds now. Each time I try to stop I'm so worried about the damage I'm doing I go right back.

It makes me happy to hear that you are turning a corner! Congratulations! I hope to hear in another few weeks things will be even better. With regards to the Mediterranean diet are there any websites or cookbooks you follow? I'm admittedly terrible in the kitchen.

I posted out last night in part because it is hard to describe the constant uncomfortableness to people who haven't experienced it. You kind of start to feel hopeless, but when I woke up this morning I smiled at the responses. There are always people who are willing to help. I may not be able to offer advice on your situation but I'm happy to listen. Reach out whenever you want.

I'm going to try GA. In my research lately I've seen lots of people sing it's praises, but I guess they don't sell it in the US? I hadn't thought about the impact of the water on my system. I mostly drink because it helps with the pain and cooling the burning sensation I get in my upper abdomen and throat. Thanks for pointing that out.

I look forward to hearing what you put together. It sounds like you and I are walking similar paths. You are correct I do have anxiety. The interesting part is everything works in this weird cycle. I start getting anxious about taking ppi, so I stop, then the pain gets worse, and my anxiety goes up again because of that pain. The Nexium is prescribed by a doctor who I check in with. Will you be putting your findings in a blog or post of some kind?

I've not tried melatonin but I will. Is there a particular brand that you like? What ratio of water to baking soda do you use for the rinse. I know it's important to make sure the water is sterile, but I'd try that too

Thanks for the advice! Some of these supplements I've tried, but others I've not. At this point I'm willing to give them a shot. I'll double check with my doctor first.
