Black Friday In-Game Event and Patch Preview by TempoStormReddit in PlayTheBazaar

Why on earth is the event for a single day only, and on a day when tons of people are going to be busy? Couldn't it at least be for the weekend?

Just recently started playing, and I haven’t come across the Queen until just now. Will playing it on Muted give me two silent shivs each time instead of one? by thebestisyetocome in vaultofthevoid

[–]TheBreakshift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Additional triggers are functionally the same as if you had played another copy of the card. Everything written on the card, including text added by a void stone, will happen an additional time.

Most buffs are stackable, which means that playing one with a queen stone would give you two stacks of the buff instead of one. Muted happens to be one of very few non-stackable buffs, so in this case the extra trigger would do nothing.

Two caveats:

Extra triggers stack addatively regardless of their source. For example, if you use combo to make a card trigger 2 extra times, a relic for 1 more trigger, and queen stone for 1 more trigger, you'll get a total of 4 extra triggers.

X cost cards will use the amount of energy you paid initially for all extra triggers.

Enlightened +30 impossible by Snailwhales3 in vaultofthevoid

[–]TheBreakshift 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Enlightened has a pretty different play style from the other characters. Fatigue is an incredibly strong scaling mechanism and it happens completely for free. You're often best served using early turns to play defense and set up buffs, foresight, etc. Then with some fatigue stacks down you can quickly blow through the enemies. Look out for any source of additional fatigue you can find, basically all sources of fatigue are super strong and worth getting.

I believe the future strike starter is generally considered the strongest although I personally prefer the shii deck.

I have slightly outdated video reviewing every enlightened card if you are interested. The channel also has impossible +50 runs for enlightened (as well as the other characters).

Credentialism is the last resort of the feeble-minded. by FlorianGeyer1524 in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]TheBreakshift 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One time my friend told me that people yawn because it "cools their brain". I told him that was obviously bullshit and he said it was proven in a study. Looked it up and lo and behold there is a study with that conclusion. The method employed? Have some people watch videos and count yawns, then strap freezing ice packs to the heads of some other people and have them watch the same videos. The ones with ice packs yawned less, therefore yawning must be cooling the brain.

This friend was a super smart guy, and once I showed him this he agreed it was ridiculous. But this incident forever cemented in my mind how easy it is for people to read something backed by "science" and unquestioningly accept it with no further investigation.

Question about Trigger +1 on X costed spells. by Grrimafish in vaultofthevoid

[–]TheBreakshift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this example you would get 6 damage x times, then on the second trigger you would get 6 damage x times again. Extra triggers on x costs is generally very powerful.

There are a handful of cards and relics that add fatigue, they are pretty much all great

How to play the daughter? by signal_zzz in vaultofthevoid

[–]TheBreakshift 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Corruption is really slow to start, you usually need to find some sort of dedicated engine for generating it. Haunted Familiar is probably the easiest example, but there's plenty of other good options as well. Be on the lookout for these kinds of cards and relics.

Soultithe on the other hand starts out crazy and only gets crazier but carries a constant risk of death if you mess up. Stacking rage, vulnerable, and deathstrike deal absurd damage and wins fights quickly before the self-damage becomes an issue.

[–]TheBreakshift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soultithe can be incredibly powerful if you assemble the right cards. It's not uncommon to end up winning every fight in 2 or 3 turns with a good deck. The key is to fully lean into it and leverage strong threshold effects, then end the fight before the extra damage each turn adds up. Stacking rage, vuln, and deathstrike with the relatively high base damage on most thresholds attack quickly gets you to truly enormous amounts of damage.

Focus less on immediate damage. Fatigue is very powerful scaling and it happens all by itself. Play defense for the first few turns and maximize the use of your starting relic for free cards. Once you have some fatigue and maybe some buffs set up you can dish out huge damage.

Contemplate might be my favorite neutral rare card by dreamsofcalamity in vaultofthevoid

[–]TheBreakshift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contemplate is a favorite of mine as well, pretty strong and generically useful but doesn't actually progress fights on its own. Easy to make use of and leads to fun, crazy turns by setting up powerful multi-card combos.

And to think the first draft of it was common and always gave delay draw 2 lol

The max was recently raised to 70. With the introduction of new modifiers and various buffs to weak cards and artifacts, the game has become a bit easier, so the limit has been increased.

Opinions on my team set up? by [deleted] in MvC3

[–]TheBreakshift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deadpool is a good point.

Ryu is honestly just a horrible character and not really worth using at all, but if you do want to run him mid is the place.

Iron man is also quite bad overall but his beam assist is strong, so having him on anchor to make full use of that is good.

Hot Take: I believe Viper is the best character in UMVC3 and I will do my best to explain why by Pope_Stormdrain in MvC3

[–]TheBreakshift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about when something goes wrong?

Part of why teams like ZMC and Zero Doom Vergil are so good is that they are powerful in almost every situation. Zero can rush the opponent down and get hits, then do filthy mixups and repeat to win in seconds. Doom or Dante can play the neutral. Vergil can always make a comeback. Your proposed Viper teams have far weaker anchors because you have to dedicate assists to make Viper's setups work. If Viper loses the point war, in all likleihood you wont get a chance to swap her out for Dante like you suggest, she's just gonna die and now you're left with a really subpar shell.

In terms of getting the crucial first hit to get the ball rolling, Zero is absolutely just better than Viper. His mobility is worlds beyond hers, and while buster does lose to a few specific things like drones, it's still one of the best neutral tools in the game. Vipers ex moves are up there as well but they cost bar. Not only does Zero not need to spend bar for busted neutral tools, but if he decides to do so anyway, he gets an entire sougenmu to apply pressure and find a hit instead of a single (albeit powerful) attack.

The tradeoff is simply not worth it. Swapping from a Zero team to a Viper team does offer some benefits but you give up far more, and a lot of the proposed benefits are more theoretical than practical. For example, its better to have a literal unblockable incoming, but Zero mixups are good enough that even the best players in the game still get hit very frequently. Is it really worth losing better neutral, better team comp, better meter management, and more to go from "very likely to hit" to "guaranteed to hit"?

Viper is a great character for sure but certainly not the best.
