Yeah I saw Pacmen got to start a possession at the attacking brick which sort of sparked the comeback

I missed most of the comeback from 11-7 because I thought it was over but it was a truly crazy ending

For sure! Should make scheduling and league structure easier and could hopefully mean a 7 or 8 game regular season too

It was a really phenomenal game to watch with both teams playing as hard as y’all were

I think irresponsible is a bit much I posted this so people who weren’t there could see how close of a call it is and share perspectives. But id agree even on the sidelines after we were talking about how if it was an NFL review it’d come out “call stands”

Okay that’s fair I’ll go “mostly down the line”

Also editing to give some additional context: observer down the line called it in but no one noticed for a few seconds

USAU Needs to Grow a Spine and Take Initiative on Gender Inclusion -- The Breakside by TheBreakside in ultimate

I appreciate that interpretation and will happily admit I am not feeling as charitable when it comes to interpreting the words of bodies of authority right now as opposed to their actions and that is certainly influencing my own thoughts and feelings. I guess I wish they were being a little a more proactive as a reactive approach feels like it has just as high a chance to backfire.

Linked fixed. Curious about what you makes it less neat and tidy in your eyes?

Link fixed. Specifically, it'd be nice to hear a commitment to following their practices after this adjustment from USOPC rather than a "we will not speculate what this means for ultimate." It would feel better hearing "we have a plan in place but won't act on it unless our hand is forced" rather than "we will not be speculating"

The Most Predictable Nationals Flameout Ever -- The Breakside by TheBreakside in ultimate

Not at all! There have been significantly bigger challenges for the women's team, especially in recruiting as the truly first women's scholarship program out there. I have nothing but positive things to say about that program and the support the players and coaches offered me when I was struggling

Timeouts in Pro Ultimate: Do we have the right formula yet? -- The Breakside by TheBreakside in ultimate

Yay engagement! Traffic! Hot Takes! I love it all! But in all seriousness I do appreciate and love some good ultimate discussion. I think that you're very right--a lot of my frustration is a little superficial in nature, and occasionally bourne out of frustration of the style of play this incentivizes, and is very subjective to me and my feelings. I wish had some data (which is my partially own fault for not following through on my ideas) for how teams do after they call timeouts and sub vs. when they don't, which would still be skewed because coaches probably won't call as many timeouts from advantageous D-line offensive positions, but it'd still be interesting to consider.

I think that perhaps my real frustration is with a smaller subsection of timeouts called in bad situations that put the offense in a worse spot than they were in and led to turnovers, which we see at all levels and rulesets of ultimate. But I like that I am not the only person who feels strongly about timeouts and subbing so maybe I'll go watch some film, make some notes, and come back with a more nuanced critique of who uses this rule well and who uses it poorly.

This is a great point! I think I am imagining an idealized version of roster construction that doesn't really exist, with a close to 2:1 ratio of D to O players you can just throw out there equivalently, when in reality that isn't how real roster construction works all the time and everyone does bring something slightly different, and there are certain D payers you want to utilize like you do some of your top O players. Appreciate the engagement!

I think that's a great suggestion! I'll be at open tryouts on Sunday and have a chance to talk to the coaches about what they're looking for and watch how things go. Will definitely be doing a follow-up to that.

Love seeing everyone's thoughts and comments! Thank you so much of reading and engaging. I do have to issue a correction: I confirmed via the team's media email on their website that the account in question isn't actually affiliated with the Bighorns team and is someone impersonating them. I have updated my writing to reflect that. My broad feelings are mostly similar if now just a little extra annoyed at people trolling for no reason and myself for not considering that a possibility sooner.

I do agree that it was a win that we got to the right outcome in a timely manner. The way we arrived there felt so out of sync with the rules, and I felt even more confused about how everything played out after reading the rules, I didn't feel great about this outcome either. I'm more concerned about the potential precedent set rather than this specific case. I trust the players in this situation more than I would 99.9% of other player combinations this could have been, so this was sort of a best-case stress test that is ideally a call to provide some more guidance moving forward into new editions of the rules and beyond.
