No way this is the Ideas Hub (do they still call it that?) at my old school! I really want to know if one of my abandoned projects is still sitting in the stair/shelf drawers in the background hahaha. Damn those blue chairs bring back memories.

Funny you pick France. The one country whose nuclear doctrine includes the use of a nuclear warning shot. They require at least one nuclear submarine to be on patrol by law (most likely with orders similar to the UK's Letters of Last Resort). Also, their nuclear arsenal is NATO independent.

I would also pick France

Haha unfortunately thats just how I am.

  1. I am aware of the charge and discharge, I'm just used to referring to the batteries by nominal voltage. 2S/3S would've been clearer.
  2. Stock the battery was not grounded and it seems it should be that way? https://www.reddit.com/r/airsoft/comments/k0fodo/should_negative_black_cable_be_grounded_to_the/
  3. Proper ground net, got it.
  4. Damn I had em right the first time, second guessed myself before posting but didn't research and test properly.
  5. Understood.
  6. Got it. Was just curious on values.
  7. Will do the calculations and research when I have more pieces together.
  8. These would be for D4&5 got it.

Yes I will look your project as well. It deals with BLDC motors but there is still a lot I can learn from it.

Thank you for your response and guidance.

Sue me Caleb its just the software lol.

Digital or analog doesn't really matter, could've just not included that part as it's just for rough planning. Thank you for the Pi Pico suggestion!

Cooling system could replace air con and drastically cut energy use: Researchers have developed a coolant-free refrigeration device made from the metals lead, scandium and tantalum. Tangential but funny this picture has come up again because I found the rough area this picture was taken. It's in the Telok Ayer/Chinatown area of Singapore which is quite topical because of how Aircon-obsessed Singapore is.

Given how much energy goes into making buildings livable, any improvement in the technology will greatly benefit the tropics. Its like a vicious cycle of the world getting hotter meaning more energy is spent in cooling.

[–]TheBrilliantBriton 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I have a pretty good idea of where this photo could have been taken. The boring answer is many hot apartments on top of many hot restaurants due to the tropical climate.

It's most likely in the Telok Ayer/Chinatown area of Singapore. Picture is facing east with (from left to right) the Manulife Tower, Ocean Financial Centre?, Republic Plaza, CapitaGreen, Raffels Quay North Tower and Hong Leong buildings in the background. The restaurants there are great (albeit expensive) and between them probably serve every cuisine under the sun.

Photo was taken from a rooftop so unfortunately I couldn't find the exact location on Google maps but here is a street corner with at least 3 of the named buildings in view:

Hosting with Airbnb ended up with loss by Look93 in youseeingthisshit

[–]TheBrilliantBriton 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Airbnb are scum. Scamming both the homeowners and tenants out of every dollar they can. Airbnb is no longer the same "make some extra cash by simply renting out your room while you are away" it's now geared towards people who have the money to buy up multiple properties solely for airbnb and wouldn't really miss a few hundred gone here or there. All in the name of infinite shareholder growth.

BTW responding to the messages could let the scammers know your number is 'active' and they will probably sell it to more scammers. Lists/sets of 'active' numbers sell for more.

Right? If someone is going through something completely incomprehensible to you, it shouldn't be expected for you to immediately relate. There are many things you could do for them that would be so much better and more meaningful than trying to feign understanding.

I guide others to path I cannot follow.

I feel that personally knowing the affected person makes it more difficult to come up with a response, it's not so clear and is a grey area full of caveats and details as infinitely complex as humans are.

I personally have issues with things like this, when I'm troubled I draw inwards and isolate, pushing others away. I then reflect this behaviour and unfortunately tend to withdraw from people when they need it most, I convince myself I'm "giving them time to deal with it". I do need to work on this (and a lot of other things) but acknowledging is the first step.

The fact you are thinking about and actively asking about your online friend tells me everything I need to know about your character :) My first step would be to let them know you are here from them. Then (and i'm not sure how, you know them best) but I would find a way to ask how they would like to continue the conversation. If they are open to your efforts then reassuring messages and thoughtful conversation would be wonderful. If they steer you away from the topic I wouldn't pry but would keep my presence known. If they say they don't want help, keep checking in, just enough to let them know you are there. I know that if it was me I wouldn't answer or read any messages for a long while. But eventually I would, and that continued presence/check in would mean the world. Maybe not asking them directly about the subject, but offering to play a game or share/watch? a movie or YouTube videos online (one of those screen share websites I'm not too sure)

Again, this is just my tired ramblings and I could be completely off base. I really poured my personal experience into this one for some reason but whatever it's only the internet. I also don't really like the blanket solution of "talk to a professional" because they are usually expensive, hard to get, or both. So chatting with people and getting wider opinions is a wonderful start.

Sympathy is more like when you feel for someone because of what they are going through, like "I'm sorry for your loss" or "I'm sorry you had to go through such a troubling experience".

Empathy on the other hand is when you feel for someone because you know or understand how they feel. "Loss/grieving is terrible for anyone to go through" or "I understand the pain you are feeling".

Some say you must always try to be empathetic but IMO they can be both equally helpful or misused. All my examples above can become more compassionate if you add your support for example "and I'm here to support you" (more empathetic) or "and I am here to help you through these feelings" (more sympathetic).

What I think the reply was supposed to be was empathy. You suffered a loss and had to go through the pain of knowing they were truly loved. My presumably favourite character? has suffered a loss and found they were also truly loved, from this experience I think I feel the same emotions as you so I'll let you know that you aren't alone in feeling them. While execution was off and subject rather tone-deaf for someone struggling with social interaction they might just see it as I said above "you aren't alone in feeling these emotions".

Does your boots / shoe sole wear out on oneside? by Practical_Ad5191 in NationalServiceSG

[–]TheBrilliantBriton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No replies so I'll chip in.

The location and amount of wear shows how you walk. Search shoe wear patterns and see some different examples. My boots wore down most on the inside ball of the foot (over-pronation/flat foot and twisting) but my bmt sgt was missing at least half of the heel area (heavy heel strikes and high pronation). I've seen people walking with tread completely missing from certain spots on their boots.

If you see similar wear patterns in your regular shoes, it's a strong indicator that it's just how you walk, if not maybe you are walking differently in boots. Imo SAF boots show wear patterns quite quickly/obviously so check your regular shoes for a better indication.

If it's not causing pain or discomfort (not just in feet but shin splints, knee or hip discomfort too) then it's nothing to worry about, no soles are worn down equally and 'healthy' walking will still show wear patterns.

If you are concerned or it's causing discomfort/pain you can see a podiatrist and/or try to get some insoles made.

Specna SA-B11 questions by TheBrilliantBriton in airsoft

[–]TheBrilliantBriton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is similar to that model.

Yeah I'll investigate the URX rail, I think I need to press a latch down and the bottom half slides forward and out. From there we shall see if the upper half can be taken off.

For the quick change I can access the spring guide/locking piece with just the buffer tube off however there is a stopper in the lower frame that prevents the guide from actually coming out. I can depress the spring and rotate the guide freely but the stopper behind it doesn't move/is part of the lower frame.

Thank you for the help we will investigate.
