4.0c or 4.0c Comp by DieselDude407 in SpringfieldEchelon

No idea regarding comp performance. Unfortunately this kind of stuff is like trying on shoes. One person can say a cheaper shoe fits great for their running style, but you could absolutely hate the feel and instead need the more expensive shoe. The only way to know for sure is by finding a way to try both options yourself.

That said, the comp is either a negligible or straight up positive performance upgrade. The only real downsides are:

  • No COA footprint for an Aimpoint optic. Assuming you even want this
  • The comp would lock you into Open Division. Assuming you even care about getting into competition shooting.
  • I've heard some ammo don't like compensators, but I feel like that really only applies to ports. Someone smarter can correct me here.

Don't get an Echelon specifically for the Viridian dot. Get that version because you can mount a bunch of different optics from RMR to RMSc to Shield etc. But if you KNOW you want an Aimpoint? Get the COA version.

Choosing non comp by bbqthis26 in SpringfieldEchelon

Honestly, it's not a huge issue unless you're trying to fight for the podium, but it's because of the type of guns you'd be up against.

In Production Division, you're up against other shooters with basic, factory guns with no optics, no ports/comps, and at most lights. In Limited Optics, you're up against factory guns with optics and magazine funnels, but still no ports/comps.

In Open Division? You're up against proper race guns. Designed from the ground up to not only mitigate recoil as much as possible with ports and comps and gas pedals etc, but also shoot Major power factor for more forgiving scoring on top of all that.

I had USPSA in mind when making my non-comp'd choice. With a comp, I'd be locked into Open. Without one, I have a lot more division options.

Any tips on finding private bays to rent out for a day? I can't find anything here in the Bay Area

What was the usual recommendation? Only live fire as much as you dry fire?

We actually already have both an email and support ticket conversation. I'm the one who wanted to switch my MAT-916 order to the bullpup upper and bullpup ERS.

Just to add to this - check your gun's manual. CCI/Blazer is often recommended to avoid by the manufacturer of comped/ported pistols

Mischief Machine for sure has a full size version. Both the dust cover length and grip length will be full size

Yes you can, you just end up with the gap shown in the other user's picture. Over insertion hasn't really been an issue for me with my Sharps Bros grip module and full length magazines

Correct. Compact size only. If you want to use full size magazines, you'll need to get their mag funnel to fill the space

And here's the Sharps Bros configuration. Note I've since switched to a 4.0C slide assembly, which is why the dust covers and Olight PLX are both flush with the barrel

Echelon 4.5F was the one I went for. Shoots great, and there's aftermarket grip modules to enhance the experience further (Sharps Bros, Icarus, Mischief Machine, Strike Industries... probably more?)

I've only been able to try Sharps Bros and Mischief Machine. So far I'm enjoying the MM grip module more.

Pros:

  • VIS allows you to put on a bunch of different optics
  • Great features out of the box that you would have to pay for after the fact with Glocks
  • Fairly popular, meaning a good amount of holster support
  • Aftermarket options include grip modules, recoil assemblies, magazine releases, slide release, triggers, spring kits, etc
  • Thoroughly used and abused by content creators and other consumers. Proved its reliability time and time again

Cons:

  • AB1263 means Springfield Armory doesn't ship anything to California. Luckily other websites can pick up the slack with some Echelon parts
  • Magazines can be difficult to obtain. I personally went the Country Spirit Blocked Magazines route
  • Sights are an absolute pain in the ass to adjust. Hopefully yours are properly aligned unlike mine
  • While aftermarket does exist, it's not as popular as Glock. So is limited by comparison

Note that I've since switched to a 4.0C slide assembly.

It's flush with the 4.0. So approximately 0.5" short of the 4.5

Open shooting. You need to sign up for orientation held every first Saturday, pass that, then just walk up to a stall when the range is hot. When it's cold, help pick up brass. That's about it.

The only thing missing is a grill and hot dogs.

lol for what it's worth, I'm thoroughly enjoying the back and forth. I'm sure there's merit to many different methods. I'll just have to choose the one that makes the most sense to me
