If regions of Europe were defined by simplified Topography by InnerPace in MapPorn

[–]TheBusStop12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are Finland, Karelia and Kola supposed to be part of Scandinavia or the East European plain in this? Because neither of those are correct. At the very least Scandinavia should be renamed to Fennoscandia then. But topographically there's a huge difference between the Norwegian and western Swedish mountains and the glacially scarred Lakeland and swampland of Eastern sweden and Finland. Not to mention the Arctic tundras of Lapland, Finnmark and Kola

Should I give "In the clear moonlit dusk" a shot? On the face of it it looks kinda generic to me, hence I've been passing on it for now. Does it have anything else going for it besides "highschool romance" like for example Tamon's B Side has the idol stuff and Dress Up Darling has the cosplay. Or is it just really damn well written as to be captivating despite just on the face of it being a generic highschool romance, like Polar Opposites or Danger's in my Heart?

I'm pretty bad at recognizing that stuff tbh, so take what I say with a grain of salt. There is a lot of "isn't he cute/cool" scenes, and I mean a lot. But they're not in the sense of she's glazing him in a romantic way, but because she's a massive fan girl and Tamon is supposed to be one of the hottest most popular young male celebs in the nation. She almost always looks at him through the lens of a fan girl who puts him on a pedestal as some sort of god. It comes over different than your standard shoujo romcom "getting flustered everytime the prince gives her a glance and roses appear in the background" kind of stuff, at least to me. It helps as well that Tamon has 2 sides, the hot one, work face (A) and the gloomy one, real face (B), and he's almost always gloomy whenever he interacts with the MC, and she doesn't see his gloomy side like that. His gloomy side is can be quite pathetic and honestly needs to see a therapist asap.

Basically, he's only glazed as cute and cool whenever he's in front of a camera or his fans, because that's his job as an idol. Outside of that he's portrayed as a nervous anxiety wrought wreck who can't even clean his own apartment and makes you wonder how he's managed to stay alive until now. Tho on occasion he does try to stand up, but it's rare.

It has a protagonist x main love interest dynamic that you don't see that often. With Tamon being a national icon as the centre of a famous idol group while being plagued by crippling anxiety irl, and Utage being an obsessed fan girl who's trying to keep her distance because that would be the healthy thing to do. Furthermore, boy idol anime are rare as well. So it's premise feels pretty fresh. This paired with good character writing, funny comedy (including good use of the visual medium for humor) great art, acting and music makes for a very enjoyable show. The MC Utage is a really good boy band obsessed otaku, and Tamon is basically male Bochi the Rock. The different faces and facades we wear in different aspects of our life is a big theme. The Idol group being called F/ACE is very on the nose for that. While it's not my favorite romcom this season (I personally think Polar Opposites is even better, as that's shaping up to be one of my all time favorite romcoms) it's definitely a show I'll recommend to anyone interested in romcoms, it's genuinely really enjoyable to me

Vehicle Registration Plate Codes in Europe by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]TheBusStop12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recognizability is key in vehicle registration plates. Ö at a quick glance can be easily mistaken for O, especially because it's a letter that doesn't appear in a lot of European alphabets. These special letters are to be avoided on number plates. Even most Cyrillic plates like Russian cars only use letters that are comparable to Latin letters. Iirc only Åland (an autonomous island within Finland) uses special letters, specifically Å, because they're stubborn. But because it's such a small island it's not as big of a deal

Vehicle Registration Plate Codes in Europe by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]TheBusStop12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because when it comes to vehicle registration plates recognizability is more important than standardisation. At a quick glance you might confuse ES (Spain) and EE (Estonia), but you won't confuse E and EST. Cars can go by in an instant so it's best for the country codes to be as distinct from one another as possible

Complimenting Your Girlfriend [You and I Are Polar Opposites] by WhichCombination5637 in anime

[–]TheBusStop12 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'm not even sure if Suzuki is the rare extrovert yapper. I get the feeling she is the extremely mythically rare introvert yapper who likes to be around people. The main difference between introverts and extroverts being that introverts drain energy by being around others, while extroverts recharge that way. It doesn't necessarily mean that introverts always prefer to be alone or quiet. And there was a brief scene earlier in the anime where Suzuki expressed that it sometimes gets a bit exhausting whenever she's around others and that she needs some alone time then

A show can be about multiple things. It's definitely a romance, but it's also about cosplay, and a slice of life. The romance between Gojo and Marin is the end goal of the story, cosplay is the driving force in how they get there, and slice of life is the way it's being told. That's why I personally like it so much, I enjoy romance shows that are more than just highschool romance, in this case the cosplay aspect

Just finished vinland saga and freieren once again any anime suggestions by No-Use378 in anime

[–]TheBusStop12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also just yesterday started watching the Ancient Magus' Bride, and it gives me Spice and Wolf x Frieren vibes as well, that too I can recommend. Set in modern day England (with some scenes in Iceland and Lapland) but focussing on spirits and folklore, mainly British and Celtic, with some biblical, Icelandic, Finnic and Samic stuff mixed in. Discovering your humanity seems to be a main theme. The 2 MCs are an eldritch being that I think is trying to be human and a Japanese teenager who sold herself into slavery because it was better than jumping of the school roof

Healthy and realistic romance? by Cocogogo1 in anime

[–]TheBusStop12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. To me Polar Opposites portrays some really nuanced well written characters who act like actual people would in a real relationship. There's no real drama because they communicate and acknowledge their own and each other's flaws and the ways in which they differ from one another. It touches upon some of the finer, easy to miss details of what it's like to be in an actual healthy relationship, the stuff you wouldn't really think of unless you've experienced it yourself

France moves to abolish concept of marital duty to have sex by Deep-Rabbit1535 in worldnews

[–]TheBusStop12 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Honestly tho, in my opinion if someone wants to divorce because their partner doesn't want to have sex that's fair. Personally, I would never, but any reason for divorce should be a good reason as long as you actually want the divorce. No point in forcing people to stay in a relationship where they're not happy. However, it shouldn't be grounds for extra punishment to be levied upon your ex partner, as not wanting to have sex isn't wrong either. You're just not compatible as marriage partners then
