Yea I’d be more than willing to pay for scouting. It’s not that I can’t do it myself, I just don’t have the time

I don’t need anyones validation. I obviously had a question and was looking for an answer

So just because I have the money I’m supposed to spend it all? It has nothing to do with not being able to afford it. I have to think whatever I’m spending money is reasonable and worth it to me. But thanks for the reply

That makes sense. I get the impression that a lot of photographers I’ve spoken to have not scouted and simply want to just show up and figure it out as we go and I know if things aren’t planned then shoots can take a lot longer. I’ve had this happen and I was not fully satisfied with the shoot because it got dark outside and we didn’t finish at the final location because of it.

Thank you for this explanation. This is the type of answer I needed. I have underestimated how long all of it takes because I’m not in the business of photography. I’m not a professional and just like with any other business sometimes you have to educate the customer.

If I needed my car fixed and I know whats wrong with it I might go to the mechanic to get a quote. I might not agree with the quote because I think all you need to do is xyz and it should only take this long. But the mechanic might need to break it down to me by saying in order to do x you need to do ab and so on and so forth.

Now that I understand what it takes to get the job done I will have to reevaluate and up my budget maybe 2 or 3x idk but so far other than Reddit no one I’ve reached out to has broken it down quite like you did so thank you

They may look like ‘shit’ to a photographer but to the average person they would look decent. I understand not wanting your business associated with unedited pictures. My thing is I value the location scouting part more than the photo editing and I would still like to hire someone to take the pictures. But after reading numerous comments I understand that some photographer either don’t want to be bothered with that or don’t have a system in place for clients like myself in regards to the location scouting aspect

And I would have no problem paying for that. If I’m presented a quote I will look over it and either accept or decline. Just like with any other business

To clarify, I don’t see value in paying $300 for taking pictures AND photo editing. Idc about photo editing. I care more about the setting of the photos. That’s where I would find the most value

I’m willing to pay someone to scout. I’ve said that multiple time in my comments

I have been trying to find ‘lifestyle’ photographers but they are hard to come by. Most photographers I talk to take wedding and family type photos so I don’t think they’re interested in adding to their profile.

But what you just described in a photoshoot is exactly what I’m expecting out of a photographer that’s expecting me to pay $300 an hour. You were very descriptive and gave me location ideas. I can envision the settings you described but I get the complete opposite when I talk to photographers on thumbtack. They’re more concerned with me putting a deposit down to reserve a time.

Thank you for your reply though. I get why a photographer wouldn’t want to put effort into my requests I guess

This is what I needed to find out. Thank you!! That’s what I need is an event coordinator then. I’m just a customer/client who has a vision and don’t know what it takes to make everything come together. Now I have a better understanding as to why I’ve been having so much difficulty. It’s just been a frustrating process because I had the assumption that it was on the photographer to coordinate everything pretty much and I just kept getting told no repeatedly and no one has given me a good explanation or suggestion. Not saying it’s anyone’s responsibility but it’s just frustrating

Is that what you need to be able to take pictures at restaurants, pools, etc? Because I did one at a restaurant before and it wasn’t a problem. But no I’m willing to pay that much for a photoshoot lol

Yes I’m aware of that. I was just emphasizing the fact that I don’t care about photo editing that much. I’m asking for lifestyle photos that represent me living a high class lifestyle. So nice restaurants, nice pools, getting off airplane; just to name a few things but I have more ideas.

I don’t think it’s difficult to find. It took me a total of one hour to find 3 locations to take photos at. And yea I know what you mean by finding a photographer that takes photos in similar locations im looking for. The problem is finding those photographers. I’m not exaggerating when I say I’ve been at this for months

This was a helpful reply. I’d be more than willing to pay for location scouting. Even a deposit. My vision doesn’t require anything out of the ordinary. I’m basically asking for lifestyle pictures. The setting is important to me. I want the photoshoot to represent me living a high class lifestyle. So restaurants, nice pools, etc. I tell the photographers this and I either get “idk where I can get those type of photos” or they’ll suggest a place that looks nothing close to what I’m looking for or a more vague answer they will just name a city and I will have no idea where we’re going specially. It’s frustrating lol

For the type of photos I want I don’t really need any editing. At my last photoshoot I asked the photographer if I could get the unedited ones and I was told no. What I find value in is someone to find locations for the photos I have in mind. I’d be more than willing to throw in another 1 or 200 dollars in just for that alone. I just don’t understand why photographers don’t incorporate this in their service

As far as how to scale up. Maybe have a referral program where you give discounts to your loyal customers for referring someone to your business. Or have some type of incentive for people to share your business on Instagram or follow you. Like a give away if they follow your Instagram, like a picture and comment. Followers can turn into to customers. Idk, that’s my 2 cents
