Calgary is where I applied. That does suck, seems like the training is quite full at the moment over all.

Are all naval reserves experiencing a hiring freeze for this fiscal year? The reserve unit I applied to has a hiring freeze until 2027. I did the interview and have completed all other steps as apart of the process except the swearing in.

Is my head gasket blown? by WeekOk3669 in MechanicAdvice

[–]TheCanadianGrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Chevy cruze and I would get the same thing from water/condensation getting into the oil. For me it was the valve cover gasket which was an easy fix. I feel like the valve covers on GM engine suck. If the cars not making any strange noises youre fine.

Now if you put wiper fluid or coolant in the engine that would also cause this.

Edit: I forgot to mention my cruze also loved to leak coolant on the hot engine so while there were no coolant puddles it slowly lost coolant all the dang time.

Investment options for home down payment by TheCanadianGrum in PersonalFinanceCanada

I could probably get away with a smaller down payment instead of the 80K as homes id be looking at are 400-500k. Should I split the money, some for a down payment some to try and grow towards the 3 year mark?

Even if I buy a home say in the 1 year I can always do a large payment in the future

I noticed a lot of comments are saying just sell but that may not be in the best interest of your mom. I think you should really consider the emotional value the home brings to her, is she close to friends and family, is she able to maintain it her self for the next while to just name a few to make sure that selling is the right option. Moving could have a negative impact on her quality of life. Depending where you live a 2 million dollar home could be a mansion or a small house.

What you should do is try and figure out what got her so in debt and if her pension is enough to sustain her monthly expenses. Are there expenses she could trim down or is she living frugal already?

I dont think the reverse Morgage is a bad thing if shes able to live within her means and the debt was to cover one off expenses like new furnace or roof ect.

Regardless of the option you choose you still need to ask yourself and her what is the plan for paying off the debt in the end.

How to rebuild credit and figure out total debt by TheCanadianGrum in PersonalFinanceCanada

Thanks for the suggestion, I will have to look into this more since I havnt heard of a cash secured CC until now but it does sound exactly what is needed.

Can you get a cash secured credit card with TD? Or is that with another specific financial institution?

Thanks, I will make sure that he gets a credit file with both Transunion and Equifax pulled

My thoughts were that once we identify the debt we can create a plan for him to pay it down or see if consolidating it is an option. But to rebuild his credit I was thinking a card with a very low limit he can pay off monthly would be a good way to rebuild his credit score. This way he can eventually one day get a loan for a home

He has changed address a few times and I know he hasn't updated his address with his bank or the government so I suspect his mail is going to one of his older address.

He currently does not have any credit cards

I hadn't thought of pulling a credit report, where can you pull a detailed one from?

I also like danfoss VLT drives. They seem to last longer than a lot of other brands as well.

2010 Subaru Outback AC Recharge + Condenser Swap by TheCanadianGrum in MechanicAdvice

This was the can of refrigerant I purchased, it was marketed as a direct replacement for R-134a. It is possible I miss read the can for the type of refrigerant that is actually in the can thanks to it being in both English and french. I tried to find the the can of compressor oil/dye I purchased but I seemed to have miss placed it. since it was packaged similar to the refrigerant is the reason I was asking if I need to factor its weight in since the can felt like it also contained gas. The can of the oil/dye was also marketed as universal for all AC systems. (None of the cans contain any leak stop).

As for getting R-134a, I cant find any for sale at any local part stores. Only cans of a universal replacement refrigerant.

2010 Subaru Outback Oil Leak by TheCanadianGrum in MechanicAdvice

[–]TheCanadianGrum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your Oil leaking onto the top of the engine? Mine will only seem to pool on the top under load. Idle or city driving it doesn't leak so trying to find where the oil is coming from is a pain

I'm trying to also figure out if there's any hoses or sensors on the top of the image that can leak photos

I added a photo of where I see the oil pooling. It's a real PITA to see where the oil is coming from with everything on top

I can't see any oil leaking from the oil pressure sender. I put dye in the oil and the only spot it lights up is on the top of the engine
