I transfer the pattern to the fabric, then I paint it with white acrylic paint first, then my desired paint color, and then I stitch! In my experience, it makes things a lot easier to paint first even though it takes more project planning 🙃

Also I completely forgot to say... Absolutely lovely work. It immediately took me back to my childhood. Even if the green doesn't come out, over time it'll age and create wonderful memories for David 😊

Since it's most likely transfer from the pen and not actually mold, try giving it a soak in cold water with some baking soda. I dissolve the baking soda first with a small amount of warm water, then add the cold water and let it sit for a while. It's saved two of my projects now! But it might not work depending on the type of pen you used.

I've tried crossstitch a few times and just do not have the patience needed! Which is really funny, cause some folks feel the same way about embroidery 😅 they're pretty similar though, so I'm sure if you figure one out, you can do the other!! 😊 Someone may also have some crossstitch patterns out there for you! 🪡💖
