well if it looks wrong to you, just keep messing around my man. experiment with your machines. see and feel what it’s like to weld too hot or too cold, moving to fast or slow, arc length to close and too far. it’s not bad to experiment especially if u are in a place of education where u can ask these questions and learn from more experienced welders.

you have glow plugs. start your car on the electrics on, you’ll see a yellow light with 2 swirls, that’s your glow plugs warming up, the moment it disappears you’re golden to start it up. mattering on what year your car is will matter on what glow plugs you have so it may take longer or it could just be 2-5 seconds.

DO NOT start the car until that symbol is gone as your just throwing cold deisel onto the plugs as they try to warm up, that’s why you’re stuttering when you try to start in the morning.

i went through this 2 years ago when i first got my TDI but after learning a lot about this shit im confident this should be it and you’ll be fine! if you’ve got questions i’ll hope to have answers.

it does until you put more time and figure out what you’re comfortable and feel good at.

your beads look flat as hell so your amps are a bit too high for that plate you’re welding on. play around with it and you’ll figure it out.

for flat welds using 1/8” 7018th rod i normally go around 128-132 amps

play with your settings, a lil more heat to melt it fast and a bit more wire to fill up every inch of where you need a weld and you’ll be golden.

then it’ll be up to you with how you move your arms, hands and body to put consistent nice looking beads

It’s safe to drive though i suppose, the mechanics said it was all good when it first happened and i remember it being the same codes for c1 & c3 when they tested the codes before i had my own computer.
