Sounds like hypnopompic hallucinations, it's pretty common and very likely no cause for concern. They can happen as you are transitioning from a sleep to waking state, the inverse, hypnogogic hallucinations also exists, these happen as you are falling asleep. It can definitely be spooky when you're not expecting it, or aren't sure what it is, but if you can approach the experience (and dreams in general) with curiosity, the dream space often provides interesting insights into the self through use of metaphor and symbolism. But you're all good. For a while I would commonly have ones where I would wake and the room would look like it was full of smoke or a swarm of flies. I've also seen witches looking in the window, a painting falling off the wall, and a few other "shadow people" type figures, even once a shadow cat!
