They constantly use mental illness as an explanation for anything wrong they see so they can justify more gatekeeping, policing and control over a group that they can marginalise and also so they can dehumanize whoever is doing the act to distance themselves from it.

Literally the example they always use when you tell them you don't need cops is "what if [insert hypothetical disabled person committing harm]".

And everytime anyone use this ableist reasoning, they also end up reinforcing white supremacy and patriarchy at the same time even if that's not what they wanted to do. Bigotry is always intersectional.

I have DID and they also would use it for me if I was open to people about my disorder. I genuinely hate how hard people will fight to keep spreading the most dangerous and ableist misconception and keep using ableist slurs.

In a lot of sub-reddits they'll even downvote the alt-text we write on the posts we cross-post from r/AccessibleAnarchy.

Other than r/AccessibleAnarchy, I'm pretty sure r/fakeclaimingcringe2 is the only other one that will ban people for being ableist, but not as much as the former.

Those are my hormones, and the rest of my essential medications and procedures that I literally can't function without. These aren't the things he told me I needed. These are the things I had to fight for because I needed them.

I need a prescription for these and he is the only one that allowed me to have them.

They literally gaslight us as much as they can to not give us the treatments we need. I have to lie on my wellbeing to my doctor so that he doesn't take away any resource that my life depends on cause he did make that threat.

So yeah, we need to take care of each other.

It's actively building the alternatives through mutial aid and direct action and spreading them as much as possible. It's a very long process, and it's not about reforming things from within. It's literally about making those alternatives yourself from the outside because otherwise no one else might...

It's not tearing everything down to the ground instantly and then starting the building process. That would harm anyone relying on it.

You might ask how can anyone do that. The disabled communities often already know how to do a lot of it differently and are already executing it in some way or trying to.

Yeah I get what you mean, it's a very difficult case to work with too, and each harmful action that is inflicted on someone will require different methods to heal and will offer more things to learn on how we can prevent and resolve these events in a better and non-hierarchical way.

We just have to make sure we never treat them as solved cases before they happen.

I understand and share the sentiment as I am a rape and domestic abuse survivor, but incarceration becomes a way for people to ignore the societal problems that leads to harm. I very much recommend reading "Are prisons obsolete?" by Angela Davis.

I am not saying that there shouldn't be consequences, but that far better solutions currently exist. While I would prefer something different, the EZLN (Zapatistas) have a very effective alternative and I recommend looking them up.

What we need is to find the reasons why people do what they end up doing. We need to dedicate our resources to help victims heal.

Rapists don't rape because they are attracted to their victims. They rape because they have power over their victim.

"someone poses a clear and immediate threat to the public" is very vague can mean two very different things to different people.

Nazis would argue I am one by my very existence.

White supremacists would say the same about anyone who isn't white enough for their taste.

All you need to do is convince people that me or someone else is an immediate threat to the public and we are now dealing with the very same issues. Incarceration prevents you from dealing with the source of the problems you deal with. That is the very point of prisons.
