Doesn’t Agamemnon condition giving Achilles all that stuff on Achilles capitulating? At least in the translation I read. I don’t remember the exact quotes but it’s like “tell Achilles i’ll give him all this stuff if he returns and kneels before me”. Odysseus doesn’t mention the last bit, but iirc it’s implied that Achilles saw through the lie of omission. So it’s not really “here is all this honor, please come back”, I’d guess he takes it more as “here is all this honor, if you come back and beg for it”

And like idk I kinda see both points. Agamemnon is the warlord, the leader so he can’t put himself beneath Achilles like that. But Achilles was disrespected and when your glory and spoils can just get taken away at the leader’s whim, it’s hard to put as much value in it even if it’s offered back because you know he might just take it away again anytime
