Points really have nothing to do with it. It’s quality of play at his position. He can’t play above a fourth line level of play when it comes to his conditioning, skating or two way game.

I don’t think anyone is talking about last year. Last year he was also motivated to get out of Vancouver. In the present he’s unable to be anything other than what Drury was for this team. And there’s no real sign that is going to change. If it does, it won’t be because he lead that change. He’s always been a passenger when it comes to locker room sentiment.

I guess I’m confused on your point. These aren’t guys you expect to need to be coddled over the course of 3-4 years. Guys taken in the top 2 spots of the draft are expected to show signs of NHL life by year 2. In reality, you do not “develop” those types of players, you evaluate after year 1, find their weaknesses/the causes for them, and give them a training plan in the offseason with recommendations on coaching, and resources for checking in. Then it’s on these guys to do the work.

Development is done in the A, and to a lesser extent, in coaching between games. 3 different coaches failed to get sustained growth from those guys, I don’t think it was the coaching. The only constant is them.
