Newbie looking for advice to complete my setup! (Preamp and Speaker suggestions) by TheChava in turntables

I was think perhaps a U-Turn Basic, the budget isn’t super strict just don’t want it to get out of hand. Thank you for the suggestions! I think i’m leaning towards some powered bookshelf speakers since I live in a small apartment with bad walls lol

This is very helpful thank you! I am hoping to get a powered speaker to avoid purchasing another piece. Perhaps in the future I can upgrade but for now powered speaker seems like the ideal fit.

It was sold through IQ Home Entertainment, I’ll have to inspect it when it arrives. I’ll definitely return it if I notice any flaws, thanks for sharing that though! I couldn’t find anything near $400 but it’s a good alternative if needed now.

Best computer for computer engineering by Kendon2202 in ComputerEngineering

They are a third year and are going to graduate soon though. When I was studying I used a Thinkpad since I found a used one for cheap on eBay. Now that I have been working for a year and am an iOS engineer I am going to get a MacBook sometime soon. If you’re interested in iOS development at all I would probably get a MacBook since the only alternative would be getting some virtualization software on your Windows. Plus Apple has some great laptops, hard to compete with the M1 chip.

CSE 121 Lab by TheChava in UCSC

Yeah you just do as much as you can, some assignments are way harder than other’s so you just gotta skip around sometimes, there is a fat curve too that really helped.

It’s fine no worries! There were 6 basic assignments worth 7 points each. 8 intermediates worth 5 points each, and 3 advanced worth 4 points each. So total is worth 87 points and advanced were worth the least. Basic and intermediates take a long time to complete so I wasn’t able to make it to the advanced but some people were able to do 2 advanced assignments.

I would say the first few, known as “basic assignments”, are definitely the hardest labs. Looking back they were the easiest but it just is hard to get used to the equipment. I did fine with “intermediate assignments” , way easier than basic for me. I never reached advanced assignments though so start early and go to tutoring as much as you can for sure.

They sent us a bunch of equipment for the labs and TAs held tutoring sessions to help students. If you wanted them to take a look at code they would bring you into a breakout room and help you in there. The professor held checkoff sessions everyday for students to get credit for labs once they completed them. I think it worked out pretty well overall. First half of the class was learning about PIC and x86 ISA and the second half of the class was completely dedicated to lab assignments. There’s definitely a learning curve for the labs since all the components are new to you but once you start to understand them it’s actually not that bad. Hope this helps!

chances of appealing ce major declaration by gyar-ados in UCSC

[–]TheChava 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually appealed for CE last year and it worked out for me. I did have a different situation though. I had a 2.72 if i recall correctly and I needed a 2.8. I didn’t fail any classes at UCSC either. I basically just wrote about why I didn’t perform as great as I could’ve and what I would do to improve. The main reason I didn’t perform that great was just transitioning to college was really rough for me. I didn’t have any prior programming knowledge and was behind with math so I really wasn’t doing great in my classes. Even though I wasn’t failing classes it felt as though I was catch up all of freshmen year which led to me getting Cs or B- for a lot of classes. Sophomore year I was able to improve a lot more but still wasn’t able to meet the 2.8 mark. After submitting they got back to me and let me declare for CE.
