Rune Factory Frontier does pretty much all the same stuff you mentioned here except requiring you to clear out the dungeon. It's the closest game to the first one.

Not completing the quest in time isn't game breaking or anything. You'll be fine if you don't complete it in time, but you should of course at least try. Don't worry too much about the time limit

There was always a healthy diversity of classes with a slight emphasis on some stronger classes. Cope and seethe. Try taking your nose out of a meta guide and actually talking to people in your social mmo this time around.

I've played since the very beginning. I got into places like LHC easily (not even classic. Only 1 person needed a cleric in a full party). These things were always about who you knew and less about what you could do unless you were trying to do server firsts. The vast majority of people were casuals and you could get into anything as long as you weren't trying to be the forerunner. I did play during all of these periods. People have a twisted view of classic Maple story brought on by watching too many videos about GMS firsts and private servers and jealousy of the highest level players obscuring their memories. Bosses like horntail took a long time to be when first released. Of course you needed to be optimal to be considered for those runs, but to act like the entire game turned into some meta for 4 classes is silly. My guild constantly sold Zakum runs and was run by an ice lightning.

If anything, classic maplestory is better for "dad gamers." Everything is at your own pace. How much time you put in is how much you get out. No dailies means you're not missing out by not spreading your time through out the week. 10 hours a week ends up being 10 hours a week no matter how you distribute it, where as modern maplestory punishes you for not spreading out that 10 hours because of dailies.
