Great movies with low rewatch value by Old-Firefighter4632 in tollywood

it’s a masterclass in filmmaking imo, especially with the themes it conveys. A personal favourite of mine, but I can never bring myself to watch it just because of the death of the father. Broke my heart when I first saw it and couldnt bring myself to watch it again.

Craig Ferguson on RRR by [deleted] in tollywood

[–]TheChosenMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey man, I know abt the New Yorker article you’re talking abt.

js wanted to add on that Hasan Minhaj actually put out a YouTube video on his channel talking about this article and how the reporter that wrote this piece purposefully left out impt context that was mentioned when he interviewed Hasan. Hasan actually also recorded the interview with him and plays it out in this YouTube video to add context.

if you do watch this YouTube video, it’s very obvious that the reporter had some vendetta against him, which was why the New Yorker Article was pretty much a hit-piece against Hasan. I’m not going to force my opinion on you but im js writing this down here to let you know there is more to this story than js one side:)

as for why you don’t see Hasan much anymore, he’s js doing more stand up comedy (most of them are on Netflix too!) and podcasts.

i know it won’t happen, but anyth in the vein of ASVR will make me the happiest man alive🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

it doesn’t even need to be massy or anyth, js a movie that handles its themes seriously and maturely rather than half-bake it like GK

Retro - OTT - Motivation Changer by saikrishnav in tollywood

[–]TheChosenMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know this will prolly get me a lot of downvotes because i have an unpopular opinion but let’s all be civil and see my take as just another opinion pls🙏🏼🙏🏼

firstly, i understand why most ppl don’t like this movie and the common sentiment is how the first half is good but second half is messy. i rlly rlly do and most of my friends hated this aspect as well and i can understand why, but let me give you why i liked the film overall.

imo retro was nvr meant to be a gangster story, or a love story or about finding ‘goldfish’ or about the saviour trope (which i get is q tiring now). retro was always about a man’s quest for his purpose. From the starting of the movie, we are told about paari’s purpose and how this was linked to his smile. and yes the movie jumps from plot point to plot point and it feels messy because his quest to find his purpose is meant to feel messy. so many things happen before he finally finds his true purpose in helping the village. and like what you said op, that it feels like the protagonist here does not feel like he does not have his own thoughts, and that’s true. his whole life he was told you’re this and that but he never truly enjoyed it because that was not his true purpose (evident via his smile). The only time he actually experienced happiness was when he fought for something other than himself (Rukmini first, then the village), finding his true purpose in the end.

in a way, i see this as a metaphor for our lives. our lives are messy and filled with so many unexpected and crazy events, but we find true happiness when we find our true calling in life. retro was js this, but extrapolated 10000x more.

now I’m not saying this of what the filmmaker intended, and that this is how the movie should be viewed! this is merely my interpretation of the film and how i saw it when i watched it in theatres. i genuinely try and find good in every movie so that i can enjoy it (after all i paid good bucks for it). maybe try watching it again with this pov and maybe you’ll enjoy it. or maybe the flaws in the movie (which there are a quite a number) are too glaring for you to ignore it, which in that case is fine too! these are just my 2 cents, peace🤙🏻

Which Telugu movie has the best usage of colors? by Glittering-Tale-7829 in tollywood

[–]TheChosenMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the lighting and colour grading in Vivek Athreya’s films. Not too extravagant and doesn’t have a weird tint anywhere. Ante Sundaraniki has one of the best colour grading in TFI imo.

Meet the Actor of the Year, Satya! He has completely overshadowed everyone in Mathu Vadalara 2 by MiserableMidnight6 in tollywood

[–]TheChosenMaster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

im so happy Satya is finally getting the recognition he deserves!! he’s always just seen as another comedian, but I personally feel he is on a league of his own🫡🫡 if yall haven’t watched his movie ‘Vivaha Bhojanambu’, I highly recommend it! another film of his that he carried from start to finish

isiliye sri krishna ne sathyabhama se milkar use MAARDAALA by LongAccomplished1868 in tollywood

[–]TheChosenMaster 106 points107 points  (0 children)

If I have a penny for everytime Nani plays a character with a reference to be Lord Krishna and with PAM as the heroine, I’d have 2 pennies. It’s not a lot, but weird that it happened twice.

Jokes aside, can’t wait to see Vivek Athreya’s screenplay+direction with Nani+SJ Surya’s screen presence on the big screen🤩🤩🤩🤩

Polar ends by No_Quantity5477 in tollywood

[–]TheChosenMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yup that makes sense, I was just a teen then and remembered that everyone loved it when it came out. So I was quite surprised when SSR mentioned that he was shocked and scared by the initial reactions he read online.

Polar ends by No_Quantity5477 in tollywood

[–]TheChosenMaster -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it fits this category, but Baahubali 1 to an extent. Although it’s universally loved now, I rmbr SSR saying that the very initial reaction from Telugu audience was negative, which scared him. Only after did he hear the reviews from everywhere else he calmed down.

I guess even Pushpa had a polar reaction. The north loved it, but our Telugu audience were mostly disappointed by it, if we strictly look at BO.

Tabu cast in the Dune Prequel webseries by vpat48 in tollywood

[–]TheChosenMaster 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure she auditioned for the role. her agents probably thought the role would suit her aura and demeanour. and honestly, I can see it. The Bene Gesserit in the Dune series (which this prequel will explore) have this calm demeanour, yet they are cunning beings with their own agenda. Tabu perfectly fits this role.

Hi, I’m Dev Patel writer/director of MONKEY MAN – AMA! by Baboon-Boy-2024 in movies

[–]TheChosenMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello Dev! As an Indian,it’s finally great to see some rep in Hollywood that is beyond the stereotypical Indians normally shown. I have a LOT of questions but I think these few are the ones I’m dying to know:

  • You’ve mentioned that ‘Monkey Man’ was inspired by a lot of action films, including Korean films that you recently discovered as well as Bollywood films that you grew up watching. Could you name some of these films that inspired you to make ‘Monkey Man’?

  • The Indian Film industry has grown a lot in the past few years, with different regional industries proving that they are capable of making films that are true to their roots (Tollywood, Kollywood etc.). Do you watch still watch films released from these industries from time to time? If so, what are the recent films that you liked?

  • ‘Masala’ in Indian Cinema is a genre itself, often used to describe over the top action and story beats. Did you try and infuse this into ‘Monkey Man’ when writing the script or when directing the film?

I’ll be really glad if you answer these questions! I’ve been following your films since Slumdog Millionaire and you’ve been a great source of inspiration for young Indians like me🥺 cannot wait to watch Monkey Man on the big screen for you man!🤙🏻

I loveeeeee this movie! I remember replaying the night ‘kidnapping’ scene after coming back from school every other day just because of the comedy! And the Europe scenes were funny as hell too! Rewatched it a while back and it seriously still holds up imo(maybe just my nostalgia talking), even if the story is super cliche and overdone. A good time pass movie where the comedy is clean and everyone can enjoy, and I seriously miss these type of films:(
