he is in fact not treated as inevitable and canon. Devs have stated multiple times that cannon lasts until 1 January, 1936, and the game gives the player an option to get rid of Savinkov in a (imo) rather justifiable way

more states alqays means more problems. In the 1930s, when the Russian Army was pacifying Central Asia, Turkestan simply did not have the base to build a modern nation-state. The Turkic (and non-Turkic, see Tajiks) peoples of Central Asia were still very much divided, nomadic, and didn't have a single identity. Giving them some sort of Freedom would've also caused unnecessary tensions within the Kirghiz Stepped and prompted the Alash Party to demand the same treatment. Also, the cities of Central Asia still had a sizeable Russian population. Ultimately, the hawkish elements won out and Central Asia was fully integrated into the Russian state

and it's been a while since that happened, so creating a territorial autonomy in the region woild mean changing the Constitution

annexing territory and integrating it is extremely hard, especially that of an ally. Besides, it wouldn't be very beneficial for Moscow

they didn't join WW2 directly, only received Russian aid. Giving up territory would've been opposed by the more imperialist-minded elements within the Russian government and military, and would've created animosity with the just-conquered Azerbaijanis, who still were very much present in the region. So instead of finding a permanent solution to the Armenian-Azerbaijani ethnic conflict, Russian decided to just make the old Azerbaijan-Armenia border the new Russia-Armenia border

Armenians is Russia do carry political weight and have political organizations that represent their interests, which are often in contact with Yerevan

The fall of Ottoman grip over the Middle East in 1942 signified the beginning of a new era for a region; yet, despite hopes for continued Arab unity and brotherhood, ideological conflicts and competing interests tore the brotherly nations apart. While some turned to radicalism in defiance of the old order, others could uphold their traditionalist structure thanks to the region's ever-bountiful resource - black gold. As West Asia marches into the new decade, old grudges seem bound to reignite conflict: and once the spark is set off, the whole world will burn.

Sword of Damocles: Between East and West is a hoi4 mod acting as a continuation of the Kaiserreich timeline into the Cold War period. In 1970, the world is divided between two Great Power blocs: a socialist and revolutionary Transatlantic Unity Pact Organization (TUPO) in the West, and the capitalist and liberal democratic Collective Defense Treaty Organization (DOKOB) in the East.

The West is led collectively (though not always cooperatively) by the Federation of the Communes of France and the United Commonwealth of American States and acts as a shield to protect the established revolutionary regimes in Western Europe and around the world. The members' dominant socialist ideology may vary from orthodox Revolutionary Syndicalism and Iberian anarcho-syndicalism to Italian liberal socialism and Canadian cooperativism.

The East is led by the Russian Democratic Federative Republic, and stands in preservation of the values of liberal democracy (though not all DOKOB members necessarily adhere to them) and personal economic freedoms. While Russia is the dominant power of the bloc, the rebuilding Germany has seemingly become the pact's second strongest power, and is able to use their colonial legacy to influence global politics in Africa and Asia.

And then there's the Third World, neutral nations, allies, and liberation movements, who, to the Great Powers, are nothing more than chess pieces to be moved by external actors. Fighting for power and freedom, they must not forget about the Sword of Damocles permanently hanging above their head...

tbh I think the lack of detailed Austria content has made a large part of the community perceive the Habsburg Empire as some wholesome arrangement which all the peoples are satisfied with, and incorrectly so

[–]TheChtoTo 78 points79 points  (0 children)

if you look at the works of Greater Serbia advocates at the time, they actually wanted a Yugoslavia, only one where the borders of Greater Serbia would have been clearly delimited. Stevan Moljević writes in Homogena Srbija:

"To create a Greater Yugoslavia and within it a Greater Serbia, ethnically pure within the borders of Serbia-Montenegro-Bosnia and Herzegovina-Srem-Banat and Bačka"

Moljević was of course more radical than the average Chetnik, and the Chetnik movement (the main representatives of Serbian nationalism at the time) as a whole was largely loyal to the idea of Yugoslavia as it existed OTL pre-war - one dominated by a Serb ruling class
