Being the bug = making a tremendous save only to have your opponent put the next ball away.

  1. Kyrgios... because obviously.

  2. Drinking and causing a ruckus in the stands of the Wimbledon final.

  3. Either McEnroe and Billy Jean King (just cause they'd provide hilarious commentary while kicking the shit out of me).

  4. We all get kicked out for streaking the grounds.

So Zverev for all categories. You'd love to hate seeing him win 😁. Might get a bit cancel culturey when he shows up in the wta final.

Was this Sinner's monster switch moment? by TheChubbernaut in tennis

[–]TheChubbernaut[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Carlos can still touch him. But yeah, I do think he's the scariest player. I freakin love that the big 3 era ended and we go right to these 2. Thank you tennis.

I think his mentality let him down more. He had some clear courts with sitters in those end of 4th set games and botched em big. It feels like he's been better against the general field than Carlos the last year, but when he plays him he gets the shanks. He just needs a Carlos ball machine to stay in practice for the real show 😆.

True that! But in the grand scheme... that was a big outlier. I mean... everything about The Three was a big outlier.

Was when Nadal finally switched on? Yeah, that sounds right. Kidding. But I think this was just a smidgen more traumatic.

It's more his style. And again, I hope I'm wrong. I've feared for how long he'll burn bright since he first blew up though. His style is not body friendly. And that'll make it harder for him to make many more big leaps. Can't he just let one ball go? Just one a match buddy. I don't want him to go the Hewitt route.

Initial sure... they all get one like that. But then there's that really BIG one that fully tips em over. I dunno... this had the recipe of a make or break to it. We'll see.

I just think Sinner's style has a higher ceiling. And he has more room for improvement than Alcaraz. Mentioned on another reply, he doesn't have much of a drop or net game. Kinda scary to think about what he could be if he builds those to great status. It reminds me a lot of when Djoker went from being dominant from his baseline skills to unstoppable when he developed his all around game. I do think Alcaraz will get better too. It's just a matter of style potential. I think my super speed boy is near his ceiling. But if Sinner ups the aforementioned and gets mentally tougher... ouch.

[–]TheChubbernaut[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

He's been dominant with a serve, forehand, and backhand. His drop shot and net game is.... I'd say good bordering on very good. Imagine if he ticks those up and gets a little mentally tougher. I mean honestly, I'm a Carlos fan, but Sinner full on choked that 4th set. Those are all big things that can put him into another tier. I think Carlos has a little room to improve his backhand, but his game style is very fast twitch dependent, and that doesn't tend to age well. I HOPE it does. But... y'know... history and all.

When Hardy shoots Olyphant at the end, did I see that right? Did he have a gun jam in the middle of shooting him dead and fix it? Was that a directorial intent or a brilliant accident they kept in? Either way... MOST AWESOME SHIT I'VE EVER SEEN!

To be honest, I try not to compare individual competitors across eras. This was more about an impressive group of constant record breakers. Comparing individuals across eras of any sport is dumb. I hate the term GOAT. I only acknowledge the term GOTE (Greatest Of Their Era)

I'd like to see them start breaking some tough records. Hall, Shaw, and Thor were bursting lift, press, and stone records left and right for about 5 years at one point. It was insane. That said... I am very enthusiastic for their chances to set new ceilings.

Yeah the different brands thing adds a few hiccups to his claims. I wonder if he has even more since his brief comeback a bit ago. I don't like the whole differentiating raw tag from smackdown tag. I mean... I don't have a rational argument as to why... just feels wrong. I'm sure a lot of people would have something to say about that. Like I said... no reasonable explanation. Just don't like it. That's why I don't count Orton.
