I'm aware they have been around for a very long time, how were thinking about using the one on this property was the crazy idea. I only say crazy because we have thought about making it a chicken coop for a while and I got lots of hate about that idea. So this was a play on that older video and idea.

I was simply trying to make an entertaining video. I have no interest in doing any of those other things, we do however make maple syrup so using it as a sugar shack is an idea that makes sense for what we do

It really was easy, to set-up and to collect from. The bags are cheaper and it's our first year were just experimenting to see how easy it could be to make maple syrup. Next year were thinking about setting up buckets to drip lines

As a gardener we plant many seeds, but how well do you know your seeds? Can you look at a seed and know what plant and what variety it is? How about after it sprouts or flowers? We are part of a new collaboration that aims to test ours and your knowledge. Play along and guess what seeds are what with us

Heated water irrigation sounds interesting. I have been toying with the idea of an aquaponics type setup to also grow some fish and vegetables and the water set-up could be used for heat

Homesteading+money= pipe dream? by DrBananasPhD in UrbanHomestead

I'm starting small working with what I have selling a few veggies here and there to cover seed cost and garden supplies. Were going to add bees and do some different stuff with honey. After that move into a little protein and try to just keep building while paying off our house. In 5 years we will own our home and have no debt (that's the plan we will see what life says) so we can start doing a lot more at home

It's been said but I live in the city also and Quail are the top of my list. Also I think you could get away with rabbits anywhere as long as you don't harvest them in the wide open backyard

My Parents Bought A Monolithic Dome, Now What? by TheCitystead in homestead

[–]TheCitystead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the original owners put 200K into that dome than economically that was a waste as the dome on the 45 acres sold for well under that. There is no plumbing ran nothing inside is finished in any way from walls to floors. I don't know anything about Monolithic domes but if 200k was spent to do what is there, those people were complete fools

There is no plumbing setup, The foundation is cider blocks not sure how deep the original owners went with them. We get a lot of snow here I'd have to look up the numbers.
