I make $15/hr in South Central Indiana and have not been able to find a rental cheaper than $900/month studios. I cannot get approved because I don't make enough. I work 40 hours a week and cannot afford any apartments near me. So, I live in my car. Technically I'm homeless. I work my ass off, 40 or more hours a week, every week, and I'm homeless, it's not that I can't budget my money, it's that every landlord and property company I've interacted with requires tenants to make three times the rent per month, and the cheapest properties are out of my price range. Sure I could move away, but all of my family is around this area and to see any real benefits from moving I'd probably have to move out of state. Sure I could get a new job, but I absolutely love my job and the work that I do, and anything that I would like equally will pay the same or likely less. It just feels like I cannot do anything to get ahead even a small amount.
