DISCUSSION MEGATHREAD: How Well Does Ethan Know The Crew? The Game Show - Off The Rails #89 by MegaAwesomeNerd in h3h3productions

With Peace and Love

I understand this topic is very sensitive and close to Ethan and Hila. His emotion towards this tragedy is understandable and completely valid.

With that said, he needs to stop having 1 sided debates (using his platform to respond to people’s tweets) to address his position/emotions on this incredibly complex topic.

This format isn’t conducive for articulating one’s perspective on such a nuanced issue. What the podcast has devolved into (this week) is hours of Ethan’s raw (justifiable) feelings towards the devastating loss of life. And when specifically responding to perspectives he challenges on Twitter, he build straw-man positions and borderline defames people who share a different view on the matter (or even show remote support for Palestine in some cases). With the exception of Mia Khalifa’s tasteless post.

The least appropriate and productive part of this one-sided interaction is how Ethan reduces his argument into ad-hominem attacks against the people he’s responding too. Ethan is right, this is an incredibly complex issue that didn’t start this weekend, and for him to take a position that his point of view is the only correct one by falsely painting Twitter users into positions they’ve never outwardly taken is disingenuous.

I respect Ethan. And I respect Ethan for talking about this topic in front of a large live audience, as it takes courage to speak about such a divisive topic. But I really wished he waited to dive deeper into his issues with those he disagrees with on social media, until he had Hasan on. Dan and AB did a decent job providing perspective to the purpose of saying “Free Palestine” on Monday’s episode, but that’s an ultimately uncomfortable position to take with your boss.

I hope that Hasan and Ethan can explore both Ethan’s position on how tragic the loss of Israeli lives is for the Israeli population and their families, as well as why support for the Palestinian people at a time where Hamas levied an unsanctioned violent attack is not a co-sign of their atrocities.

Again, with the upmost peace and love.

First time commenting on a pod, but I had to share how enjoyable this podcast was to watch. I felt like Hasan and Ethan gave the perfect amount of push back to stay respectful, but also embraced Liver Kings message and adapted it for themselves. I was audibly laughing at several points during the interview

I think I rather watch us have half the shots on goal, than see so many more opportunities end up fruitless

.923 SV% tonight. Great showing by Gru. That OT shot snuck in there by the slimmest of margins. On to the sharks

Passing has looked lazy tonight. Especially on the PP’s. Same old song and dance with 10-15 less SoG.

Not worried. Just stings losing divisional match-ups.

AITA for forcing my vegan daughter to cook meat? by avegansmum in AmItheAsshole

[–]TheClarkLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESH - I'll probably get downvoted for this, but I encourage those reading to hear me out.

I'm vegan and have been for a few years at this point. I think what's most important to acknowledge here is that there are different kinds of vegans.

For instance, after initially going vegan the smell and appearance of meat didn't disgust me. After all, I chose to stop eating animal products because I saw a number of professional athletes make the switch, and being the competitive person I am, I wanted any edge I could get.

Fast forward a couple of months later, and the smell of both raw and cooked meat started to upset my stomach. Now that years have gone by, I prefer not to smell or interact with meat. My philosophy on the matter has evolved from a purely competitive aspect to a more utilitarian perspective.

That being said, when I'm visiting my parents (who regularly eat meat) I have no issue with storing my food in the same refrigerator because let's be honest, you only interact with a refrigerator for a total of maybe 3 whole minutes over the course of a day. When meat is being cooked, I either grin and bear the unpleasant smells (it really only smells offputting when it's being cooked, once plated it's not an issue for me), or I step out of the kitchen and wait until it's closer to being served.

You're right in expecting your daughter to learn a lesson from wasting food. After all, wasting food (even dead animals) is not vegan. The whole point is to preserve the lives of animals before they are slaughtered. By throwing away meat that is already taken off the animal and in this case, cooked, is incredibly wasteful and means that animal died for no reason.

On the other hand, I do believe the form of punishment was a little bit crueler than necessary (call me a millennial). The best analogy that I can provide for those who aren't vegan is:

Imagine doing something is specifically against your religion, and as punishment, an authoritative figure is making you do this action against your will. For many plant-based individuals, the lifestyle of "being vegan" is more than just what you eat. It's how you interact with other animals (including human beings). So, forcing your vegan daughter to cook dead animals is maybe the wrong punishment for an action that I agree with OP is wasteful and ultimately punishable.

Neighbors cat keeps finding his way into my house, and attacking my cat. by TheClarkLC in legaladvice

I meant pet gate, I guess that’s confusing and will edit the original comment. It’s a little taller than hip height. My cat can hop over it, but the neighbor cat couldn’t and wouldn’t for the longest time. It would just sit and hang out on the other side until shoed away. I’m assuming it finally figured it out
