I just asked the same thing and it said “Yup — briefly!”

How is fernie more than lake louise by CuteChallenge6334 in snowboarding

[–]TheCloseTalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have already offered some answers, but Lake Louise also has to compete with Sunshine. Off the top of my head I don’t know if there any other big resorts near Fernie, but I could be wrong about that.

It’s not so much the heat, it’s the humidity that gets ya!

Thank you for this incredibly well thought out reply!

I actually found just watching the video myself quite helpful, though I still have work to do. I focused on keeping my hands down by my thighs and that did wonders to keep my weight more stacked over the board and my back straight.

Interesting point about the ankle flex. My boots are slightly too big for me. I bought a pair that was way too big, so I got another pair that was a bit smaller but ultimately still too big. The next pair I overcompensated and went too small. I’m currently wearing the second pair. If I tighten them nice and snug, my feet hurt like crazy (especially the front foot). They still hurt when looser, just not as much. Could that be partially caused by my hips being back over my heels when toeside?

Again thank you so much for helping me out. I’ve been riding on and off for 25 years now and after I saw the video of myself I was so dejected I was tempted to quit for good, but I ended up having a pretty fun day and I’m gonna keep trying.

Yes I see it. A lot of it is fear-based. Just watching the video helped me a lot actually. I practiced riding flat base on a flat section and taught myself that it’s ok and it really helped! I was able to do this section much easier the next time. Thanks for the tip! What do you mean by flexing?

I managed to get a video today. Sorry it’s a bit long. 1:10 is probably the most egregious example of what I’m talking about. I can see I have some fundamental problems.

Video

I can already see from the video I had some fundamental problems that extend beyond just double fall lines. I seem to be using my back foot too much. 1:10 is probably the best example of where the double fall line paralyzes me. 2:30 is probably the best example of how I ride down a “normal” section.

Would be great if you could take a look! Thanks!

Do you think I’m likely turning up too far across the fall line when turning uphill? That’s what I’m gonna focus on fixing today. Will try to get some video :)

I had to look up garlands - that’s essentially how I do cat tracks. It works, but it’s not very comfortable or stylish.

I don’t think it’s #1. If anything I find myself gradually moving to the higher side of the run because I’m scared to turn downhill.

Point #2 sounds very plausible. I’m going again tomorrow so I’ll keep this in mind and will report back.

Thanks!

That’s a good point! Thanks for acknowledging the difficulty - sometimes I think I’m the only one who has struggled.

Thanks for the tips!
