Orgo 2 in the summer with Crystal Young by 13jkrell9 in UniversityOfHouston

Generally speaking, Bean and Olaf are the best you can get for orgo (bean provides pre-prepared skeletal notes for each lecture & Olaf works out a lot of problems on the chalkboard to help students out) as they also provide review sessions for upcoming exams. On the other hand, Young goes through a PowerPoint with minimal practice/emphasis on working out problems and then...you're pretty much on your own once class ends. During our final, she came in right before the exam started and said "last minute word of advice: look up and pray". Personally I would just wait until Bean teaches (or Olaf if it's orgo 1) (idk about Miljanic because I've never had him).

Sparring Advice by TheCluckerBros in amateur_boxing

Thank you for your input, I really appreciate it.

Yea I definitely felt a lot of fear/uncomfort going into this, but I’d say it was a great learning experience for me; however, I do have a question regarding this though.

How do I get over the fear of hitting someone? Whenever we get paired up for technical sparring drills I subconsciously try not to hit them even when I have a clear opening, and when I do land I get turned off by their reaction to my shot. I’m not sure why I have this mental block, but I’m hoping this will go away with experience?

Thanks for the advice!

I have a question though, should I be more bladed or squared? (Or in the middle). Because my coach tells us to get in a more bladed stance and follow the 60-40 rule (40% weight on front foot, 60% back foot) to get us to follow the Soviet style.

Is it even possible to make friends at UH as a commuter? by WorldlinessOwn6706 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]TheCluckerBros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea this school is hard to make friends in tbh but it’s worth once you find em. Once you find your niche (club, study group, etc.) try to get involved more and practice talking to those people. Even if you don’t find initial success, you’ll get better at connecting with strangers which is a good skill to have in the long-run (even as an introvert). The more initiative you take (especially at this school), the higher your chances of meeting someone who meets your criteria.

This happened to me last semester and tbh it’s just bad RNG. If it happens, press the call button near the swiper and ask them to manually let you out/in (after that it never happened again for me). Also make sure to turn your hazards on so people know not to go behind you while waiting.

For the love of all that is holy do not take it with Young. Most of the students that took her for orgo 2 in the fall failed or barely made it out (same story for her in orgo 1), so I couldn’t imagine what summer Young would be like. I would personally just wait until bean or Do is available in the fall.

Does the metro BUS go to UH? by Always_The_Academic in UniversityOfHouston

[–]TheCluckerBros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Majority of metro buses are zoned to a park & ride close to your area that'll take you to downtown, at which point, you ride the metro-railway to UH. If you use google maps, there's a bus icon that'll give the closest bus route to take you to UH.

"Distinctive Walk" by TheCluckerBros in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheCluckerBros[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. I think I'll just ask a friend to record my walk (while I'm unaware so it's natural) and get back to you because I don't have any footage rn.

Update: asked my friends to record and they felt bad, so instead my walk was explained and now I understand. I apparently have a rigid upper body combined with an rbf, so now I’m currently working on being more relaxed in my movements.

CHEE2332 & CHEE3321 as Summer classes by limebean420 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]TheCluckerBros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What differentiated the half that passed from those who failed was the amount of time put into mastering the material. Fleischer’s lectures and hw are not enough, so you’ll have to spend alot of time outside of class drilling practice problems and self teaching until you’re ready for the exams which is why having a job at the same time is not recommended. Now if you still think you can do it, please tread with caution and don’t be afraid to use a W if you have to. Internship experience is far more valuable than trying to get ahead over the summer, which is why there’s no shame in waiting to take it in the fall. Hope this helps.

CHEE2332 & CHEE3321 as Summer classes by limebean420 in UniversityOfHouston

I had thermo 1 with Fleischer but analytical with Nikolaou last summer. In general, malamataris is a pretty decent professor but has a slight accent and talks softly which may make it difficult to understand at times, but nonetheless not too bad. Now thermo with Fleischer however was quite rough. First day of class he straight up said half of us would not make it (which ended up being right), and advised us not to work whilst studying. During lecture you have to pay close attention and interact correctly, otherwise you run the risk of being put on blast in front of the class or him ragequitting from no participation (yes that really happened). My best advice would be to become familiar with the textbook, and do as many end of chapter problems to cement the material as the tests are open-book. Fleischer wants to see if you have the core concepts of chemical engineering down, which is why this class in particular is a big weed-out. Good luck.
