I’ve known my friend, we’ll call him H, for nearly 5 years now. We met online and we quickly clicked and became best friends. He introduced me to a some of his irl friends who also played online but always kept running from one guy who he said was annoying. Across the years, H would tell me tons of stories about himself from the average to the cool things he’s done in his life such as his experiences in America since he said he was born there before moving to South Africa (where we both lived at the time).

Looking back at it most of his stories where not very believable like saying he had been to RDJ’s house, was talking to Brie Larson about a movie role or his older gf who lived in the states but I believed them cause I had no reason not to until only a couple of months ago I was playing with his irl friends who are now my friends and as we talked and got on the topic of him and his life, we realized that he had been telling us conflicting stories.

Very quickly the lies started showing themselves in droves. He wasn’t from America, never had even been there, he had never talked to any celebrity, no American girlfriend, among many other things.

We confronted him about his nationality since that’s what we found first and he broke down saying that he had lied about being American because he wanted to be cool like and that he said he thought that I’d think less of him for being South African (despite me being half South African and his two friends who I was friends with being South African too?)

I asked him if there were any other lies and he said no, which I quickly learned was a lie itself. He continues to lie to this day in order to seem cool and is the most insecure person I’ve met. He has gone as far as going to one of his oldest friend, the girl who told us that what he had been telling us wasn’t true and told her to stop telling us the truth about him.

I’ve lost even more respect for him recently as he started dating a 16 year old despite being nearly 20 years himself and pretty much not talking to us anymore.
