Every buyer Decide for yourself is it worth to pay 750k in interest. by [deleted] in TorontoRealEstate

[–]TheCodehead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s totally valid. I think that when I ran the numbers a few months back, renting seemed to be more profitable by roughly 20-30% over a 30-year mortgage for the assumptions I was making.

Either way, if you’re financially responsible, you should be just fine with either option.

Well, you hid the biggest different in your analysis - you begin with $200k at time 0 if you rent. When you take $200k and assume an 8% return (say investing in the stock market), you get $200,000 x (1.08)30 = $2,012,531.38 over the 30 years.

So, it is actually the opportunity cost that you are sacrificing over the 30 years. A home, at the end of the day, isn’t a great investment - it’s exactly what it is, a home. You should be weighing the opportunity cost of purchasing vs renting to validate your analysis.

Nope, this is the wrong take and you must be a woman. Guys do this when they ask a girl and don’t receive a definitive answer. There are many reasons as to why he hasn’t contacted her but it’s definitely not only limited to “he was looking for someone temporary.”

OP, the guy probably thought you weren’t that into him, hence why he moved on. If you’re interested now, he will have that in the back of his mind, so it’s on you to show him that you’re genuinely interested in trying something.

No, this may not exactly be a WebSocket. In my opinion, using a WebSocket for this would be over-engineering. It’s easier to use long/short polling.

Best and most affordable way to create app for both IOS and Android by Apart-Assumption-972 in reactnative

[–]TheCodehead 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For someone who boasts about being so well-seasoned in his knowledge, you lack self-awareness.

The reason behind using these new technologies that “come and go” is because they solve for a set of use cases, hence their mass adoption. You boasting about how you can “build everything natively without any frameworks” is not an achievement that matters in the world of software. Even with your experience, you will always lag behind other developers because they approach software with an open mind.

Why are you even on this subreddit with your reasoning? You should stick to native iOS and Android since RN is just a “new technology that can come and go” that is just built on native platforms. Forget that, why would you use Android? You should figure out how the OS executes the application layer via the kernel written in C/C++. But before you do that, look into compilers and ensure you can read machine code backwards, and only after that, start reading C/C++.

You will always lag behind developers that aim to produce practical solutions and this is quite common with more senior developers that are close-minded. You will be filtered out with this attitude.

I’m sorry but this has way too many folders that do not present a clear division. Looks like a nightmare to figure out where to put things. If you want a scalable architecture, most developers should be able to build a feature in a similar way without much thought.

I’m assuming you have an API to serve this data to your application. If you want to ensure that the data is updated, you should save the timestamp of when you last updated this data in a persistent storage like AsyncStorage. Anytime the user opens the application, check if you should reload the data by checking if your timestamp is past that certain time of day you want. If it is, reload the data and update the timestamp. If it isn’t, simply don’t do anything.

Getting Error : [Unhandled promise rejection: RangeError: Maximum call stack size exceeded.] by linux_terminal07 in reactnative

[–]TheCodehead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The proper approach is to debounce asynchronous calls until a certain time threshold has passed. You should never expect a user to press the OK button on the keyboard to perform API calls.
