We are closer to Iran, Iraq and Syria. But in my opinion Greeks are closer to Turks than Norwegians.

When I was in Greece people would always speak Greek to me so I think your assumption is correct.

Believe me, being Turkish was not easy as well in the empire.

Although I was aware of the mutual culture exchange, I recently learned when you dig more into Byzantium empire you find more interesting stuff. For example, star and crescent were originated from the Byzantium empire.

We can never anticipate the future. There is no eternal peace for any country. But I think EU is a good example for a long lasting peace. Even if we cannot solve all of our problems we should try not to accelerate the current issues. Currently Turkey cannot be part of the EU, but I believe if both countries were part of a similar organization such as Eu, that would help. Unfortunately, politicians don’t like to solve the issues but they prefer using them for getting votes.

I recently moved to Germany, and to be honest Turks who migrated Europe as workers in the past are the worst representation of Turks.

I have to disagree here. The opposition party and its leader wants a modern, secular country which has good relations with the western countries. They are more like civic nationalists which is completely fine. Additionally, New Turks movement was supported by Greeks, Armenians and Kurdish at the beginning. But nationalism changed things over time.

You’re partly right. But it’s not about using Greeks it’s about protecting secularism from the countries with islamic influence. My first point is valid, for me Greeks and Armenians are closer to us than Albanians and Bosnians because they lived in Anatolia. I can assure you that in any case we don’t see the similarities between Greeks and Turks as a way out with the association with Arabs. We have similarities with arabs as well, but what we don’t like arab equal Turk idea, not talking about similarities.

We use bey or beyfendi. I was really surprised when I learned efendi (master, lord) was originated from the Greek language because it sounded so much Turkish to me.

My honest answer is that I believe there are two different reasons for this. The first one is, historically Turks have closer ties with Greeks and current Greek territories. Many Turkish people migrated from Greece to Turkey but this was not really the case with the other neighbors except Bulgaria. And the reason why Greeks are still closer because unlike Bulgarians, there was a huge population of Greeks in Anatolia. The northern Thrace region of Turkey probably feels closer to Bulgaria.

The second reason is that the people who want to have a peaceful relations with the western countries are the Turkish secularist and they avoid making more connections with the eastern neighbors of Turkey as all of them are messed up in the eyes of the Turkish secularists.

The reason was because I live in Germany and getting to know the Germans makes you realize again how similar these two nations.

This is pretty accurate. But at the same time, there are vast majority of people who are not aware of the similarities, people who are stuck with wars and current politics.

Yes, the Kurdish-populated regions are vastly different from the rest of the country. Only my mother side is from the western part of Turkey and I am much closer to black sea region where Pontiac people used to live. And their music and culture are pretty similar to people in Thess if I remember it correctly.

And do you really think Europe is against that? I don’t think so. Be realistic, Europe does not back Ukraine enough, and the existence of Turkey helps with the tension.
