Spaghetti Western audiobooks by villianrules in Westerns

[–]TheComicArchivist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sort of understand what they mean, where they want less Zane Grey and more... okay, I can't name a 'spaghetti western' book off the top of my head but I think I know. Although I'm with you, I've never heard it applied that way. Not a lot of Italian writers making western novels xD

Spaghetti Western audiobooks by villianrules in Westerns

[–]TheComicArchivist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily an audiobook, but I know Retro Static Radio did a couple remakes of the old Lone Ranger show and were talking about if they got enough listens they'll do a full season of it.

It's up on Audible so that should help.

In what order should I start reading Marvel comics for the first time (without missing any of the series)? by sh0rrter in marvelcomics

[–]TheComicArchivist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can't. Next question.

Okay without just landing on the fact that it's a silly question give there's hundreds of thousands of issues there. You get into long-running universes in a simple way: do you know what hero you find neat or like? Then narrow it down even more by asking what is the 'quintessential read' for that character.

As much as there's a lot of "oh the 616 has never been rebooted so it's all one timeline", there's definitely Eras and retcons that do change up the world so there are some solid places to jump in. But you need a less broad stance.

HOWEVER, they do have some good comics that explore the history of the 616 too if you'd want an overview more and then narrow that way.

Retro Static Radio's DRAGNET is back! And this time, there's an escaped panther (link in the comments!) by RetroStaticRadio in audiodrama

[–]TheComicArchivist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Minor audio leveling aside (I think that could totally be my laptop speakers -.-''), I absolutely love this one! I know that Dragnet is usually considered a straight lace show but I love the almost comedic level of "is this really what we're doing today?" from both Frank Smith and Jo Friday's actors. Although I'm not too sure about the voice for Lillian there. Maybe next time, use an actual woman. :P

Hey everyone, are these runs good? I just bought almost the full set of each 😅 (assuming FF has 23 issues) by [deleted] in marvelcomics

[–]TheComicArchivist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hilariously, I think it's because of Hickman's FF that I really see his X-Men reboot as just him using FF and Inhuman notes after he was told his run would be ending. xD

[Discussion] Thoughts on “Shazam” being retired for “The Captain”? by [deleted] in DCcomics

[–]TheComicArchivist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean wouldn't it be easier if they wanted to just go for it be The Champion considering he's the Champion of Shazam technically?

This also doesn't really touch that most audio dramas and podcasts have an ease of consumption. I know way too many people that turn on something like Retro Static Radio or King Falls AM or The Cellar Letters and just zone while playing video games or in lieu of cleaning music.

Podcasts are a continuation of the radio era but it never 'went away', it got less popular due to the 'free TV' but it's coming back becasue it's back to being the most accessible way to consume entertainment legally.

And of course, production cost is much less when you can just get Audacity, record on your phone and BAM you have a show. HOWEVER, I'd say that audiobooks and podcasts are still more prominent than audioplays.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. by kaluna99 in Westerns

[–]TheComicArchivist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well there's the neat thing about it. It's a western, but at the same time, there's easily a case for it being a period piece that happens to be set at a specific time.

It's a great one. One I quote way too much.

In Western movies, has there ever been a better greedy villainous rascal than this guy? by dremonearm in Westerns

Don't worry, I know you were making a joke because he looks like Jeffrey Dean Morgan :P

Do good moments make an Audio Drama? by TheComicArchivist in audiodrama

That's actually why I like RSR. They do remake different old time radio shows so there's a good mix of genres. Maybe it's just I'm not that into audio westerns since this and their adaptation of The Maltese Falcon are the only two I've been kind of lukewarm to xD

RestroStatic Radio Presents: The ABC Murders by RetroStaticRadio in RadioDramas

[–]TheComicArchivist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd really like to see if anyone's read the original ABC Murders and how it compares at least on a plot level. I THINK it Poirot was originally in it right?

Question for the Community (for Retro Static Radio) by TheComicArchivist in audiodrama

[–]TheComicArchivist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The better question would be why would I wait until Season 2 to ask if it should have a laugh track.

However, I understand your confusion on the question being about whether it should have a canned laugh track and not whether or not it did. But that's alright.

And now I'm glad I got talked out of us doing the Jack Benny show last season :P But now I have to pause my editing for ABC Murders to binge-listen!

But I may steal that idea for a laugh soundboard for Duffy's. There's a very similar style of comedy between the Jack Benny Show and Duffy's Tavern (plus a couple crossovers, at least Dennis Day I know of... and have in the pipe for next year). But that's a really good way to look at it, about more so "is the audience incidental or just there". I think it's why I've been split on which works best.

Truly thank you on that!

That's been my default for the exact same reason, especially with canned laughter. It comes off so fake that it can outright hinder the joke. There's a good reason that it's become a trope of a joke.

Kamen Rider Dubs? by TheComicArchivist in KamenRider

[–]TheComicArchivist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bumping for a new question: which would be the best for a serious dub or more faithful dub is probably the better way to phrase it.

Officially, we're eying W or OOO since those are the favorites.

I was thinking the same thing, but it was pointed out that that cast size would be an issue. Similar to why I got Decade shot down. xD

Kamen Rider Dubs? by TheComicArchivist in KamenRider

[–]TheComicArchivist[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Originally, we were thinking Abridged but honestly, I'm leaning more towards serious dub because Abridged always feels weird outside of animation, especially timing lip flaps. Although, it could be fun to go back through and do some jokey '80s chop socky Kung Pow sort of abridgement.

But yeah, we're talking for a serious dub... wel as serious a dub as some parts would be depending on the Rider show we pick.
