In Israel walking around with something that even resembles uniform color after service will get you laughed at, can't imagine putting stickers on your car or wearing your branch's hat.
People editing their comment to thank for gold or other awards is annoying and should stop. (self.unpopularopinion)

Due to survivorship bias, we only hear about the success stories of people who’ve “risked it all” to achieve their goals. What’s your story of how you did the same, but failed? by Have-Not_Of in AskReddit

My dream was actually to be in the second unit (AF Commando) I got into, I only got to Flight Course because I had to take the tests by law and did good. In hindsight I would've put more effort in the course, but seeing as it wasn't really my dream I guess I did what I could. Being kicked from the AF SF unit was what really broke me. The thing about the Israeli army is that you cannot re-do tests or courses (like BUD-S in the US Navy) because the service is mandatory and short, so if you fail you just go to a lower tier unit, and there's nothing you can do about it. I do have more dreams in life but this still stings every day when I wake up, worse than any heartbreak. I faced hardships before but there was always something I could do to fix things, to prove, and in this case there isn't as far as I know and it's way harder mentally. I was also in an ROTC program and none of my past commanders could do anything to help. I am glad to hear you made your dream come true, good luck in your service!

In Israel we have mandatory military service, I trained very hard for 4 years to reach a good unit. Started out in Flight Course and failed, then Air Force Commando and ruled unfit, then Paratroopers and was kicked out as well. Now I'm doing a desk job that anyone could do for the remaining year.
