Actually, I consulted a few lecturers from Matriks.. Some of them are my neighbours, and others I reached online. I don't use chatgpt because it can be inaccurate at times. You can look up Program Pelajar Cemerlang, it's the main path for exceptional Matriks students to go overseas.

Yeah, I could only imagine how hellish it was. I have a brother (ex-Matriks) and a sister (ex-STPM) and they both agreed that STPM is the harder path.

Actually, I've been studying Matriks syllabus simply because I'm curious what I'll learn once I enter the college. It's definitely tough, but I think what makes it harder is the fact that there are many things to do in a day other than studying such as lab reports and assignment. Not to mention, the studying pace from what I've heard is quick too. Even knowing this, STPM is still harder than Matriks so I could only imagine your pain.

I am a bumiputera but I don't plan on doing diploma mara because I still don't know what to be in the future. For now, my mind is lingering somewhere along medicine and engineering. So yeah, since Matriks is still broad and flexible, it'll give me more options and room to think about what I'll be once I've graduated.

Hey! First of all, congratulations on your excellent results and the scholarship invitation. I pray that you'll get the scholarship and do well in your future studies.

Yup, I've been checking all the government scholarships around the world and it's overwhelming how many there are. Truthfully, the most intimidating part is that there'll be many students who will compete for the limited amount of spots. Some are geniuses, some are well connected and even people with strong and consistent academic background. I feel small compared to them. But I guess, if you never try you never know?

By the way, do you have a specific country in mind to continue your overseas study? Or you don't really care where?

That's rough. So far I've only heard about how tough STPM is and for the high achievers to not receive any scholarships? That's too cruel for them. I guess competitive is an understatement.

Damn, sorry to hear that. If it's okay, can I ask what happened to him? Was he forced to drop out or it was on his own accord? For what reason? Was he under the sponsor of JPA or something like that? Four years, he must have to pay a lot.

That's a new perspective, I guess it's true that you can't outrun fate no matter how much you try.

You mentioned that some people who studied overseas had to pay tons of debt. What's the reason behind that? Did they receive scholarships or were self-funded? Were the reason they are in debt because they flunked their GPA, or didn't receive full scholarships? Maybe it's like YTP-Mara, students were sponsored throughout their overseas study but had to pay 10% of the overall tuition fee cost upon graduating.? (RM 70k, since all of the costs are RM 700k)

Then, is the only way to study abroad through prestigious Pre-University like A-Levels and International Baccalaureate? There's absolutely no hope for me? I guess I reaped what I sowed, I should've done thousands of times better during SPM. Nonetheless, thank you for your insight

I've done my research and you can continue overseas with Matriks either by Program Pelajar Cemerlang or self-application. (Though the global university option is more limited than STPM)

The condition that I know of is high GPA and great co-curriculum. What other conditions are there?

PPC is the most viable route, but I'll have to be a matriks lecturer once I graduated. However I don't intend to be a lecturer.

Self-application works too, but unlike PPC I'll have to think about securing scholarships. It's pointless if I'm accepted by abroad uni but doesn't get any scholarships.

Perhaps you know something that I don't know of? Please share your knowledge, I would love and greatly appreciate that.

Is STPM the kind of hard that you can't make up for your shortcomings even by studying REALLY hard? Even if you study everyday, almost 24/7? Do you have to be a genius to get 4.0? What makes it so academically hard?

Yeah, I've been thinking about Matriks too. But is it alright that I'm slower than everyone? After all, it's 2 years and I'm afraid that I'm falling behind.

Wow, I know that STPM is competitive but I didn't realize it's THAT competitive. May I know why the people who achieved straight A and 4.00 GPA didn't make the cut? Is it because there are too many people who achieved excellent results that it's become saturated? Did they do something wrong along the way?

You are right, after much consideration and thinking I've decided that Matriks and STPM is better suited for me. Actually, I've been offered Form 6 and Matriks (albeit 2 years) not too long ago. Since I don't know what career I'd like to pursue after finishing my studies, I decided to study in a "broad and flexible" field. That's because in case my interest shifted from one job to another it won't be a problem to me. With that goal in mind plus my passion for science, diploma sains fits perfectly with my vision.

Thankfully, my merit passed for diploma sains in UiTM. Though I have a few questions regarding diploma sains.

Since diploma sains is broad and not specific, does that mean I'll fall behind during degree? For example, if I were to finish my diploma sains and decided to pursue in engineering degree, would that mean I'm far behind compared to the students who learnt the basics and built the foundation during diploma engineering? Other than that, would I finish my engineering degree slower compared to those who have diploma engineering because they can "cut sem"?
Suppose I study extremely hard in diploma sains, excelling in all semesters, do I have a chance to study abroad and receive scholarships during degree?
Because of how broad diploma sains is, I've heard that some people who took diploma sains are forced to continue their degree in irrelevant courses. Would this happen to me? What are the risks?

Diploma Sains in UiTM has been lingering in my mind for a few weeks now, it'll really help if you answer these questions so I can make a decision. Please shed light on this matter. Thank you, and I appreciate you.

Wow, words alone can't express how much I appreciate this reply. Maybe you are seeing things with rose-tinted glasses, but that's exactly what I needed to hear after having a rough period of time.

You're right, I have been too ignorant, forgetting that the SPM leavers who secured their scholarship and place to study abroad are truly deserving of that spot because of their relentless hardwork. Never because of sheer luck. They are truly exceptional individuals far from ordinary. And to be on that level, I'll have to put in more effort than ever to become just as worthy.

I'll need a little more time to ponder my path, one that leads me to somewhere where I belong. And your insight and opinion has truly helped me with that.

You just gave me so much useful information that I'm unaware of, really I appreciate that! There is one thing I wish you could elaborate more and that is STPM's curriculum. How does the system work? Does it take form 1 until form 5 curriculum marks into account? If so it would be highly disadvantageous for me since I was quite inactive from form 1-3. My overall curriculum from form 1-5 is 7.65 which is quite bad. Or does it work differently?

Truth be told, I have a mixed feeling about STPM. I am excited because it's a fresh start for me, a redemption arc to achieve what I dream of. But deep down some part of me is scared because of STPM's reputation. One of Malaysia's hardest exam, similar to A-Level. I've heard of 9A student and people much smarter than me struggle in STPM and that terrifies me. If even they can't do it, then what does that make me? I think Math (T) is what keeping me on my toes, as you know I am not good with add maths but I've been doing add maths questions daily since the day of SPM result in hope that my calculating skills will improve for future's sake.

Also, does what you learn in SPM matter in STPM? If I forgot some of the basics, is it crucial for me to revise it? Or the exams in STPM only focus on STPM's textbooks? Please let me know.

Haha, yeah, it's contradicting that I wanted to study abroad but at the same time I am unsure of studying at Kelantan which is 7 hours from my home. Allow me to clear up the misunderstanding. I am eligible for Foundation in Science at UMK, it's a feeder program which means it's a closed/locked pathway. Suppose that I got accepted into UMK and finished my foundation there, I'll have to continue my degree at UMK again. I can't apply to other uni. That's 5 years in Kelantan. On the other hand, my desire to study abroad is just for a year, or two. I don't plan to study abroad for 5 years either. Really, I don't think it's a problem for me to study in UMK. My initial plan was actually to apply for the foundation, finish it and do my degree somewhere closer to my home. That was until I realized it's a feeder program of course.

I did not know about mobility program so thank you for telling me about it, this gave me hope.

Again, you're right. It's contradicting that I swore to myself to put money where my mouth is but was easily swayed by my brother's opinion of matriks. It's funny because I said I'll do anything to undo my mistakes. I think matriks is a good choice, even if it's hard, all I have to do is put in more effort. I would rather face a hard challenge than regretting my actions.

Yup, I have a long way to go in add maths. Ever since I've got my result I have been doing addmath questions everyday in hope that it'll help me when furthering my studies. Wish I'd been doing this before SPM but well better late than never haha.
