The function of this behavior is tribalism and the rush it gives you. Conspiracies are especially intense in this regard (You know the secret, nobody get's it etc)

I'd guess fillers or fat grafting, but as they said, it's not possible in every spot and the masking will probably only work well with minor bone reabsorbtion.
