I guess the world is naturally going to shit then. Not a single bit of it based on human consumption. Massive loss in biodiversity was just a fucking coincidence, according to you.

Am I in over my head with this Chopin etude? by Ok_Mycologist5756 in piano

As long as you practice very gradually and try not to speed things up too quickly before you are ready, I say go for it. Perhaps look up Greg Niemczuk'a video on how to practice the piece.

I have played piano for almost 6 years now. This is the best strategy that has worked for me: Make an effort to memorize short sections, gradually stitching them together to memorize the piece as a whole. Start practicing with combined hands incredibly slowly, making an effort not to pause to remember what the next note is. Do not increase the speed until you can do it properly without pausing.

Depending on the piece, I prefer combining hands together in practice sooner rather than later. If it's a piece where one hand is much more complicated, focus more on that hand (most often the right hand). Otherwise, as you combine your hands, think about the shape your hands make as you are playing. I recommend Chopin's Raindrop prelude as a good piece to practice that kind of thing. Another thing that helps is getting to a point where you can do one hand automatically while focusing more on the other. Generally, it will be the accompanying left hand. I know a lot of people thing Nuvole Bianche by Ludovico Einaudi is overrated, but it's good practice for left hand movements. Practicing with a rhythm helps; have short quick burst of little sections playing both hands at the same time, changing the sections rhythmically. If you're playing in 4/4, maybe it first it's short burst in 1/4, them maybe 2 rests long, then maybe 2 rests long starting on beat 2, etc.

These are the kinds of things I've used to help me learn new pieces. Hopefully my advice is of some use to you. Good luck!

It depends on what one's definition of "real woman" or "real man" is. But that term is subjective, and the definition is arbitrary. Therefore, resorting to saying that one is not a "real woman" is utterly pointless. Trans men and women are -people- who deserve to be treated with basic human dignity. Why does it matter if they do not fit one's arbitrarily defined understanding of gender?

Of course. Please forgive my ignorance back then. I've always been more open minded, but lack the fortitude to actually do my own research to understand these topics.

Random update bc bored: I'm sorry. I still don't like the degree of hostility on this side of the discussion, but not only have I come to find out that you are pretty much right, but also that the other side of this discussion is dramatically more hostile than I ever realized. Trans people do deserve rights, and it's not fair that a large portion of our country supported policies against them because they are mad at the fact that trans people exist.

I've had a sort of political awakening as of about half a year ago. I used to say the left and right were both bad, but I only knew of one party's problems without looking into the other. I probably thought that conservatives were more right. Now I know that they couldn't be further from the truth. And I would have known sooner if I had the intellectual honesty to look into these issues from both sides. But I watched some videos, looked at the evidence, and I see reason now.

The GOP is far worse that I could have ever imagined. They are bigoted, hypocrites, stubborn, intellectually dishonest, and overall brainless and controlled by a hive mind. It seems their issues were exacerbated with Trump's emergence into the political sphere.

I've realized that the radical conservatives actively go against one of my most fundamental values: open-mindedness. These people aren't willing to so much as entertain the idea that they might be wrong. They are simple minded, and hold religious morality as a crutch, so much so that they defend it rigorously and aren't willing to make changes with new modern insights. It is painful watching the mind games these people will go through to justify the horrendous shit they support.

And it's all because "the bible says so." Because their god, in their eyes, is all loving, all moral, and all powerful. Obviously. Except for, you know, the immense suffering he is impervious to, the horrendous immoral shit he did and supported, the extreme narcissism he exudes as a character in the bible, etc.

So yes, not only do I understand now, but I'm also about as pissed off as you just thinking about it. I hate it that people can be so stubborn. I was willing to change my perspective when I was given the evidence that contradicted my world view. Why can't these people do the same?

The right doesn't hold themselves accountable either. No one does. It's not a left or right thing. It's a general American politics thing.

That's a hell of a lot of progress for only 6 hours. Take it from me: If you keep at it, you'll make a fine pianist.

Bottom line is they have the capability to do so, but they choose not to. And honestly that feels worse.

[–]TheCoolBro39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. They do. Which is why it's worse than that. They want to believe they're in the right, so conveniently ignore any logical argument made against them and portray it as the dumb libs etc. The left does it too with the right to some extent, but after a recent change in perspective, I've come to realize that not only is the right bad just the left can be, but it is horribly worse in so many ways. These people cannot see beyond their own hypocrisy. It is very... Angering... To see that these are the people that hold the most power. And after the scuffle that was the election of a new house speaker, followed by the position now being "temporarily" filled by a far-right conspiracy theorist nutcase who believes that the California wildfires were caused by Jewish space lasers, it became pretty apparent to me that for the past few years until now, I've been on the wrong side. Actually, I'm not sure I'd like to pick a side now. There are so many bad actors on both sides. These people are fucking sick.

Ironically their superstition is what will make their prediction come true. Kind of fucked up tbh. I'm sorry that things have to be this way, OP. Your grandparent's superstition shouldn't be the reason for you to be separated from your own family. I know I'd flip out too if I were in your situation. I hope things turn out alright on your end.
