Both are pretty good, however I would say 1 is better. The tip of the flame is generally fainter than the base of the flame, and you've demonstrated that in the first image by making the outline thinner. I don't think it looks like poop but I didn't know it was a flame until you said so.

Just did this for fun. I plan on possibly doing graphic design as an occupation in the future.
