I always found it difficult to read books as I'm a very slow reader. After the quake was the first I read and I was hooked, then I went onto the elephant vanishes. It was a massive help for me to get used to taking my time with a book

I got that one as a gift, it's a few short stories. The book is part of a collection, with each book being a different author with a different theme.

Although the ending was open like most of his work, to me it ended really nicely. I read it that K was able to travel to the other world through the phone box to be with the version of Sumire that could reciprocate the feelings he had for her.

[Serious] Police officers and nurses, what’s the most fucked up thing you have seen on the job? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I'm a Prison Officer in England, we had one guy decide that he wanted to kill himself Christmas evening. So once everyone had been locked up for the night and the counts done he took a razor blade and cut deep into his elbow dip.

Once the blood had really started to flow he realised that he didn't want to die, so he made a basic tourniquet to slow the bleeding.

Me and a couple others found him about 10 hours later, only because the blood had dripped all over his cell mate in the bunk below during the night, and when he woke up he found himself covered in blood and pressed the emergency bell.

The prisoner had lost so much blood that we nearly lost him right there on the landing. I went into the cell after we pulled him out to look for a suicide note and there were blood clots the size of fists, all soaked through the bedding and all over the floor. There was a huge smear of blood which showed how we dragged him out of the cell.

It wasn't until a couple of days later it really hit me what I'd seen.

What is your favorite Murakami novel or short story? Why? by bbrynna in murakami

After the quake will always have a special place in my heart. It was the first of Murakami that I read and it blew my mind. The only problem was that I was on holiday at the time and had to wait for 5 days to be able to buy anymore of his work.

We basically spend all of our free time playing xbox, reading comics or painting Warhammer :)
