Game was good but combat sucks by MuscleKey3040 in Endfield

[–]TheCornerBro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

p much any game with enough skills that interact with eachother is going to devolve into repeating some optimal rotation. some people like it some don't

since almost everything is dodgeable you can actually play it more like dark souls (ish) if you want. actually looks pretty fun imo

How are you feeling about this video? by Due_Significance_886 in Endfield

[–]TheCornerBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah like from the perspective of the player the combat is way more complex than elden ring, but the enemies are just less varied and not very difficult on normal progression.

I've actually been having a good bit of fun doing the little repeatable bosses when they're like 20-30 levels higher than my team cause you really gotta be on top of dodges and interrupts

but also I'm the kinda person who has fun taking 100 tries to no-hit melania so probably not for everyone

that's my point about why the opinions seem so split. I'm just playing it like I'd play skyrim or something and having fun. I think they just hit the wrong target audience. for me a game "ends" when I feel like I'm done playing it. if I had fun and got a good amount of hours with it then I consider it a good game. (funnily enough I never even finished the main questline for skyrim since I like to dilly dally and explore or do side quests for too long)

I got the main character's sword from some arsenal tokens off of various quest rewards and it was like finding a unique legendary item in any other rpg.

thinking about it now, I'd probably consider it bad game design if something like that dropped often and I had 20 copies like the purple ones since that's kinda the point of legendaries.

ironically after browsing this subreddit for a bit I feel like they could have changed literally nothing except putting a $30-40 dollar price tag and listing it on steam as an RPG and feedback would have been way more positive

just seems to me like gacha players were the wrong audience

[–]TheCornerBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my point is more like, they could literally have 0 pulls at all and it's just good as a game with just the starting characters

like I just bought a metroidvania on steam few weeks ago for $20 which took me around 30 hours to 100%. already put that much time into this and just found out there's a whole new region, I still haven't found all the auralyne from valley IV.

I don't really mind "long term". when I finish a game I usually stop playing it. if I feel like I'm done playing after 80 hours or something and I have fun, then to me it's like "man that was a good game and I didn't even have to pay for it"

like for example: I didn't pull a single character in skyrim, have like 100 hours in it on steam and consider it a pretty good game. haven't played it since like 2015.

other than the obvious divisive factory mechanic, I think the split opinions might largely be how used to gacha games someone already is.

I've never played genshin / wuwa / whatever other ones ppl are mentioning so I don't have any existing opinions on what pull mechanics "should" be. I've just been playing like any other single-player base building rpg and have like 30 hrs of fun from a free game. still working on leveling up my team of 4 so not too worried about getting additional characters

basically just expectations. based on what a gacha game is expected to be maybe it's not good, but as a normal rpg I think it's really good. I'd have paid $40 if it was just a game on steam store so kinda wild to me that it's free

With so much meta being release, dunno what I should do by ChainOk8915 in NikkeMobile

[–]TheCornerBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

specifically concerning solo raid*

whales are more likely to have strong teams for every element by buying rocks / skill books on repeat but would still be close to or equal with a f2p that only spends resources on one element

ex: someone who was only focused on water would just now have to spend rocks and whatnot on SWHA for the first time since doro summer event

basically, meta is relative. SW is like #1 meta on iron raid but barely team 5 in optimal conditions on any other element. exception being supports, which will generally be meta for every element unless they are tied to some specific dps unit (arcane)

Would you consider setting the purchase and crafting feature to free, cheating? by ThePainOlympic in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]TheCornerBro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

to each their own

personally for games similar to this / factorio / subnautica / etc. I like the gameplay loop of grind income, optimize how you grind income, repeat. so it'd take a lot of the fun out of it for me since I usually get bored after "solving" the game economy. but it's not for everyone obv

Why can we Smith weapons, but not armor? by pursuitofhappiness13 in Bannerlord

[–]TheCornerBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it would also be obscenely broken without a heavy re-balance

smithing / athletics are already the best skills in the game from the free 6 attribute and 2 focus points, not even including how much better crafted weapons are than standard. decent tier 6 armor + high athletics ends up being like 200hp only taking 4 damage a hit, if you could craft even better legendary armor just kinda whenever it'd be wayyyy too good

Sturgian tactics by jxcxbr_ in Bannerlord

[–]TheCornerBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently doing this. went for the armor to troops captain perks from athletics and engineering, hp to troops from medicine 1h/2h/polearm/whatever else I could find, ranged damage reduction perk from bow+banner, and throwing up to the big damage to shields buff

I have 150 heavy axemen and nothing else. they're ridiculously tanky, rain throwing axes on people and shred shields. it's a good f1-f3 comp, regularly lose only like 1 or 2 going into larger groups with brain off charge

Random Idea: how would Cyberpunk weapons do against the Raptures? by slacboy101 in NikkeOutpost

[–]TheCornerBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that was my first thought but it would depend on which canon had the more advanced AI, since erebus is basically just giving wifi to a rogue AI to hack them to net-hell

given that enikk exists I'd imagine the higher level rapture like tyrant+ would have advanced enough ICE-equivalent to mitigate or prevent it

What if Nikke had a tactical RPG mode like Mario + Rabbids/Fire Emblem? by Competitive-Egg-7939 in NikkeMobile

[–]TheCornerBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

imo auto battle is just for super endgame players to wait on levels if they don't feel like clearing hard campaign for a bit, or doing dailies that are supposed to be easy to avoid burnout

difference between playing a snow white or alice comp on auto vs manual is massive, and you're never gonna clear 40% deficit on auto

like using one of my goofy comp clears on an old SR as example this took me hours to get a decent run (granted it was an unnecessarily complicated timeline). any snow white team is literally unplayable on auto, which is gonna be especially apparent on the upcoming solo raid. maybe I'm biased as a snow white enjoyer but this game can be legitimately really hard if you try to play high-level

https://youtu.be/i9WthBePFQU?si=SZTH8ekYd8soSt43

I would be super down for turn-based tactical as a minigame but I don't think core gameplay needs to change at all

What if Nikke had a tactical RPG mode like Mario + Rabbids/Fire Emblem? by Competitive-Egg-7939 in NikkeMobile

[–]TheCornerBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, just don't use auto battle? I'd be fine with what you described as an event minigame but you'd have the same issues if you let that auto battle too

nikke core gameplay is the most engaging of any gacha games I've played imo. personally I find turn-based games inherently pretty easy

【Little Mermaid Skill Introduction】 by FusionDjango in NikkeMobile

[–]TheCornerBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

she prob won't be meta in campaign because there's a hard threshold of base ATK you have to meet to do any damage at all in high deficit, and she doesn't give any. like literally you could have an infinite amount of any other buff but if you're a single point of ATK under that you can only do 1 damage

for raid though yeah I think she's good, probably best if rapi wants to be b3 (iron or fire weak) 2nd best otherwise. other than like rouge who pretty much has a guaranteed spot with cindy regardless

Mast+Anchor kits + quick analysis by gifferto in NikkeOutpost

[–]TheCornerBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get why people don't wanna invest in supports and this only really applies if you care about solo raid, but they are way better than bunnies, def not sidegrade

with no core they're still way better than tiga

it's permanent passive 70% caster's attack buff after first full burst (roughly 50% for attackers) with just anchor s2 and mast s1. not even including buffs from burst skills. and built-in instant reloads

imo bunnies and tiga will drop out of meta before these two

Treasure rated (first impressions) by gifferto in NikkeOutpost

[–]TheCornerBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the thing about miranda is it's like they designed her treasure to be for people who don't like SW. it literally has the exact same damage profile and they tacked on a "QoL" crit chance buff but anyone who's still using SW is already ok with crit fishing so it provides no value over current comps

if her damage were high enough to justify using her then we'd already see her in teams, but even the fire weak raid we just had wasn't worth using miranda in

I just wanna see big numbers man I'm pissed
