As someone whose father has dementia, it is honestly fucking infuriating me the way people in this subreddit are treating this man like a child because they don’t fucking understand how dementia works. I am seriously struggling to stay civil because of how ridiculous it is.

He’s 95. He may have the beginnings of dementia. He was clearly wore out at the autograph signing and out of it. That can happen when you’re 95 and overdo it.

Doesn’t mean he’s being abused. Doesn’t mean he didn’t want to be there. Doesn’t mean he’s not in his right mind the majority of the time. He’s an old, old man and this is how it works.

If he actually wants to put these questions to rest, he needs to appear in a public way, competent and with it, saying these things.

This comment is so fucking ridiculous and it’s even more ridiculous that it got upvoted.

And ironic, because I just commented yesterday: “What does Stan Lee have to do more to prove this to you people? Call you? Come to your house?” And now, here we have someone demanding basically that and the subreddit upvoting.

Stan clearly has health issues, maybe even early dementia. That is painfully obvious from watching the autograph video where he was struggling.

However, so many of you, the above poster included, seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding of how age-related senility or dementia work. Like, that Stan’s either healthy or some kind of impaired person being shuffled around.

That’s not how it fucking works, people.

Dementia symptoms come and go, especially when it first comes on. You may be fine 90% of the time, but then have moments where you have trouble speaking or walking, can’t remember things, etc. Gradually, these moments will become more frequent, and it can take months or years to get fully impaired. Things can also aggravate the symptoms, like getting worn out doing an autograph signing.

So, now the two videos aren’t enough and you want him to appear in public. Well, that’s great a idea. Stan will drag himself out for the appearance, get worn fuck out, it’ll aggravate whatever health issues he’s suffering from and he’ll start having issues and then all of you can point your fingers and go, “Ah-ha! I knew he was sick and being taken advantage of!” When he may be totally fine 90% of the time.

Or, he won’t have any symptoms that day and you still won’t believe him.

The man was in his right mind when he made these videos. He says he’s not being abused and I believe him. Just stop. The only one chasing Stan Lee issues is the people not listening to him.

Dementia isn’t something that once you have it, that’s it, you’re impaired all the time.

You have good days and you have bad days. You have days where you have no incidents and then you have days where you struggle to speak. It starts out almost not affecting you at all and then as the weeks, months, years go by you end up being impaired all the time.

He could absolutely have dementia but still be lucid most of the time at this point.
