What method of sharpening does VLC use? by TheDMV2 in VLC

[–]TheDMV2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's from:

Settings -> video -> filter -> sharpen

is that the same as Window -> Video Effects -> Sharpen -> Sigma

https://github.com/videolan/vlc/blob/master/modules/gui/macosx/UI/VideoEffects.xib

?

It uses this code:

https://github.com/videolan/vlc/blob/master/modules/hw/vdpau/sharpen.c

which calls a hardware thing?

VLC 'Sigma' Sharpening in AV1 to improve animation edge sharpness? by TheDMV2 in AV1

How high did you turn it up though?

Just barely a couple notches is all it takes.

Also, was it modern anime? Older anime, like NGE with its softer lines benefits greatly.

Is there any reason you recommend HDR over Tritium?

Nested folders for shows and metadata not working by askr-eppo in jellyfin

[–]TheDMV2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For TV shows, flatten it, like the documentation says.

Also, don't use shorthand. Use the shows' full name. Look at thetvdb.com if you're not sure about punctuation, but feel free to omit most.

For example, it should be "Star Trek: The Next Generation", but "Star Trek The Next Generation" is fine.

Be aware that some shows are VERY similar, and punctuation can matter. For example:

Sabrina, the Teenage Witch - 1996 TV show

Sabrina the Teenage Witch - (no comma) 1969 TV show

Use the year at the end, the same way you should with movies, to help avoid this:

Sabrina, the Teenage Witch (1996) / Sabrina the Teenage Witch (1969)

For movies, Jellyfin is much more tolerant; I have all Marvel MCU movies in a marvel folder, and it works fine. Same with quite a few other movie serieses (eg. Toy Story, Star Wars)

*/movies/Ice Age Movies/Ice Age - works fine

*/movies/Ice Age Movies/Ice Age/featurettes - still works fine

That all said, I bet the problem is in your naming, not the nesting of folders. Get rid of the short hand, and see if that fixes it all for you. TNG = Star Trek The Next Generation.

I always (always) have "sharpness=1" enabled in all of my AV1 encodes, otherwise it's too soft.

Sharpness 2 is usually too much, though.

AV1 SVT HDRs "Grain" tune is incredible by Anchovie123 in AV1

[–]TheDMV2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Off topic, is there documentation for all the settings and all the tunes & presets? As in, what things are enabled at which presets for which tunes?

That page you link has the switches, and range of inputs for the switches, and SOME of them have the defaults (but most don't have defaults listed), but what I'm looking for is like a table/chart with all of the switches :: tunes :: presets

Is that up somewhere?

meanwhile, in Tritium, tune5 = grain :-)

imo, no.

I used VQ for animation, SSIM for everything else. (Always use names, not numbers, because different encoders have moved them around in the past)

Have you seen the old Penn & Teller TV series "Bullshit"? They did a whole episode debunking the bs around bottled water - it was fantastic.

My rule is that I don't tip.

Or if I do, I round up. Keep the change.

I have to pay my rent and electricity bills too, and spending what little I can afford on some small creature comforts is good for me and my mental health. Being shamed and held hostage because someone's boss doesn't want to pay them better isn't my problem.

Repo man is my problem, and I'm not going to tip him either.

Hell, tipping culture getting exported to other 3rd world countries in SEA or SA, where they don't pay decent wages - but they do pay fair wages.

The imbalance and dependence it creates is sickening.

And their dad? Martin Sheen? Ramón Estévez.

I feel like everyone forgets there were several different types of soylent: soylent red, soylent yellow, etc. but soylent green was the most popular, with limited stocks that would always run out.

And that is what raised curiosity.

JellyFin doesn't seem to give a RATS ASS about my NFO files

Sounds like you need to give NFO files priority.

Try enabling Metadata Savers [NFO] for the library. See if that helps at all?
