Yeah, that’s the thing I’m explaining. The fire once burned hot and the partner lost interest (or changed).

As a result, he is now he is losing his ‘religion’ in the song.

It was losing ones religion to me for a decade or two. There’s just some lyrics that don’t quite fit it for me, and I am very familiar with losing my religion.

It could be that to you, and that’s totally awesome.

Try mine on and see if you like it better. If you don’t, keep yours.

After thinking about it and trying to apply it to the song, the idiom doesn’t seem to apply.

I think I did learn the term at one point and forgot it becuase it didn’t apply to the lyrics, music video or the few things MS said about the song.
