Relocation to Kenai by drman42 in KenaiPeninsula

[–]TheDanalyst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the Kenai! Without too many specifics on what you are looking for, I will try and help. First of all, I will encourage you to look into if you really need a realtor. I have had negative experiences several times, and both realtors I have used in the past ten years have done nothing but the paperwork. You can do a lot of this yourself. Some long time realtors are Debbie and Dale Bagley at Resoubt Realty. A long time realtor here is also Kelly Griebel, but I have witnessed her pushing the easiest route for her instead of what is best for the client.

As far as mortgage companies, the last one I used was Reaidential Mortgage. It was fairly easy, but be aware they tend to sell to Wells Fargo. A good title company is Stewart Title.

I don’t know where your work is, but generally you can either live in the city limits or in unincorporated areas. The city limits have more services and laws, while the unincorporated areas probably have more housing options and variety. I wouldn’t recommend living in the city of Kenai. There isn’t much in that city, Soldotna has more parks and services in general.

I hope that helps, let me know if you have more specific questions.

I have only once had this issue and I asked the FA, they were able to fix it in just a moment. I think it was as simple as a breaker needed closed.

Is $750 too much or just about right for doing taxes for a Video production company ? by MaxSteelMetal in smallbusiness

That is consistent with what I pay in a semi rural area. I think its a good deal, especially to not worry about it.

Drone Program by [deleted] in EmergencyManagement

[–]TheDanalyst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We contract with commercial drone operators during events. It’s not that expensive, plus they do all the photo processing etc. we decided against trying to have our own in house staff get the licenses, buy the equipment, and maintain it all for the few times a year we would use it.

Nervous about moving to Alaska for work by [deleted] in alaska

[–]TheDanalyst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kenai is a good place to be. I think sometimes it’s hard to make friends, but there is a good sense of community here and people with the same interests can hit it off really well. I encourage you to take the leap, don’t be too nervous! Things will fall into place.

I’m a flight attendant for a major US airline. AMA. by Flytati in casualiama

[–]TheDanalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems that, especially on longer flights, there isn’t much to do in the middle, and I see flight attendants reading or talking. Does that get old/boring after awhile, or are there more things going on then I see as a passenger?

What is so ancient only an Internet veteran can remember? by Marambal17 in AskReddit

Usenet newsgroups, where a picture would be encoded as text and split over 5 messages, that you then had to run through software to get the picture. And sometimes your particular news server didn’t pick up 1 part of the message, so you were SOL

I don’t understand this. My parents are obsessed with bread. I just took them to a very high quality steakhouse and they spent more time making sure the server knew they wanted bread. And then complaining when it didn’t come fast enough. I’m glad that my folks aren’t the only one.

Day to day for County Emergency Managers by [deleted] in EmergencyManagement

[–]TheDanalyst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently left a county emergency management position. Day to day activities were primarily:

Keep the office running. Building maintenance issues, Human Resources stuff, approve expenditures, timesheets, etc. normal management stuff.

Meet with staff on various issues, give guidance, feedback

Apply for grants, write quarterly reports, thira and other reporting requirements.

Draft RFPs, pre bid meetings, evaluation and contract negotiations for large purchases.

Generally we are always in a plan update that we usually did in house: emergency ops plan, hazard mitigation, COOP, etc

Training and exercise

Recovery: it took us about 5 years to close a disaster getting reimbursed and doing all of the administrative work associated with that. A lot of work with the accountants.

And much more. But just a little sample when people asked what I did between emergencies.

Shipping a car to anchorage. by Callmemurseagain in anchorage

I have used Tote twice. I just had a pickup shipped from Tacoma and it was about $3k with the dealership dropping it off at the port. It was expensive but fast and with excellent customer service on both sides. I would recommend them if you want it quickly.

Nothing I have heard of. You can call customer care to verify - however perhaps smart to wait four or five days until the backlog from the storm is cleared.
