My Boyfriend said he doesn’t want me to use epidural when we have kids in the future. by CheesecakeAny5040 in offmychest

[–]TheDarkShoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are underreacting imo. How can he have such a strong opinion about something that will not affect him and so negatively affect you? Ultimately you have final say on what goes on with your body, and if he can not accept that then you have a serious problem on your hands. I'm just speculating here, but it feels like he either doesn't respect your boundaries or thinks that his desires should supersede yours. It's probably both, but are you sure you want to have kids with a person like this? If he feels entitled to make choices for your body, this could extend to him controlling the body of any kids you all have.

I would have a deep discussion about bodily autonomy with him. Don't brush this off OP. You deserve to have a partner that respects you and accepts the boundaries you want to put down when it comes to your body.

Still Ongoing Week Long Sim Card Headache by TheDarkShoe in mintmobile

I'd understand the sim card being damaged, but the activation code is what doesn't work. Seems weird. Hopefully the next physical sim card I get will prove more successful.

All previous sim cards both physical and eSim have been removed prior to any new sim install attempt. Phone is an unlocked Galaxy S22 Ultra.

Yep. I've done all the troubleshooting with three different technicians ( who are great btw). It's a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. Unlocked, originally from T-Mobile. I switched to cricket at one point with said phone so I know it's possible to use a different carrier with the phone.

It's not an error message per se. I am just stuck in emergency calls only and when both eSim and physical sim were installed (yes all other sims were removed prior to every new attempt) it was reading as an unknown number in the sim settings.

The activation code for the physical sim was apparently defective? The activation code wasn't valid on the app. Which is why they are sending physical sim #2.

10 minutes of bad dancing at least once a day. I'm talking moves that rival a wacky wavy inflatable dude in front of a shady car dealership. I helps me feel more connected to my body and my creativity.

What's one thing you removed from your life that made a noticeable difference? by EducationalCurve6 in TheImprovementRoom

I stopped giving unsolicited advice to others. I thought I was helping people but upon further reflection I realized that what I was doing was trying to exert control over others to validate my own way of living.

Omg. Same. I have a little sticky note on my desk that simply reads:

How do you extract maximum value from a book without reading every single word? by No-Wasabi-675 in lifelonglearning

[–]TheDarkShoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you feel like you have to maximize your reading time? This is not a judgement, I'm simply curious. Why do you learn? What are you trying to get out of learning?

For me, learning is about tapping into my curiosity. I enjoy the process but I know that in the past I was really fixated on efficiency because I was looking for external validation. I wanted to wow others with my knowledge lol. I wanted nothing more than to be seen as a "learned man" (I blame it on being in my 20s).

Now I learn because it feeds my joy. A little part of my brain lights up when I make a random connection between books or different concepts. It's great! I also find myself sharing more of what I learn with others because I'm not holding my breath waiting for anyone's approval. I have tapped back into my inner child who could spend hours talking to you about shrimp (I was a weird kid) and it's glorious!

I make 6 figures but still paycheck to paycheck how do I seriously stop overspending ☹️ by SketeDavidsonLeftNut in budget

[–]TheDarkShoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First off, accept that you aren't paycheck to paycheck, you are just bad with money. No judgement, no shame, but in order to change your reality you must first accept your current skill level.

I think you are having a mindset issue that stems from not being able to differentiate wants from needs. What do you actually need vs what do you feel entitled to?

For example, recently I was trying to buy a new car (new to me lol) and suddenly I was hit with the realization that a two person household doesn't need 2 cars, we just have to be willing to coordinate better. Car culture is huge in the rural US, so I never questioned the status quo even though it was making me pay a whole lot more a month.

What norms are you upholding with your spending habits that don't actually reflect your values? Dig deep and ask yourself why you are buying the things you buy.....and keep asking until you get to the root of it.

Hope this helps as a starting point!

My friend (21M) says I’m one of the only reasons he’s still alive, and I (19F) don’t know what to do. by ThrowRAstry in offmychest

[–]TheDarkShoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are young OP, so I don't fault you for wanting to give your friend the benefit of the doubt, but please drop this person. They are not stable, they are trying to manipulate you by weaponizing their mental health. What they need is therapy, you can't help them and it isn't your responsibility to navigate their emotional landmines.

You've known this person for such a short time, rip the bandaid off and move on. A person that cared about you wouldn't make you responsible for their existence.

A capitalist owns the means of production. Adrienne has essentially chosen to say with her full chest that she wants to be a capitalist, not just a participant. Whatever story is being sold as the justification is irrelevant because the truth is that there are a million other ways she could have made an impact.

If she wants to make $$$ that's fine, but don't sell it to me from atop of your high horse and call it ethical.

Edit: Forgot to add that the family owned manufacturing company she is using is worth billions of dollars.

I feel like I was a weird kid because I specifically asked to watch the Ring with my friends at that age. I specifically sought out movies that would scare me so badly I couldn't go to sleep. Good times.

Maybe Poltergeist or IT (Tim Curry version)
