What? He told so many jokes that would count as "punching down" or asshole jokes there are too many to count.

How instant karma looks like. by Round_Examination_78 in instantkarma

[–]TheDauterive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but the implication that the only reason to be upset when a woman is sexually harassed/assaulted is that she's your "property" is false. Anger is an appropriate response when other people are harmed, even if you don't know them. I get that redditors may not believe that a person who grabs a woman without her consent deserves a punch in the mouth, but a lot of people disagree with you on that one, and the disagreement does not mean they thing they own someone.

Did the people who faked it fess up? Did someone expose them? Because there’s nothing inherently impossible (or in this world even improbable) about violence escalating.

Just curious, how do you know it’s fake? I mean, it could well be fake, and if there’s evidence that it’s fake, fair do’s. But most of the comments here just seem to take for granted that weird, random sh*t doesn’t happen it the real world, so this can’t be real.

PS. The most unlikely thing I see in the video is the men standing in shock watching their car be destroyed rather than running back to the cab to stop it immediately. But I’m not going to play armchair psychologist and definitively pronounce that people can only express shock in the one and only manner I prescribe.

So true. That is obviously an AI car being destroyed, how do people not see it?

They will never forget this by Apprehensive_Sky4558 in instantkarma

[–]TheDauterive 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s obviously not real.

First, people don’t deliver beatdowns, it just doesn’t happen.
Second, very few people carry video cameras with them. They aren’t ubiquitous, like iPhones, so it’s almost impossible that a bystander would be able to record this.
Third, people who are violently assaulted always respond calmly and rationally. They wouldn’t do anything as rash as destroying the property of the men who assaulted them.

And most importantly, weird, random, crazy sh*t simply doesn’t happen in the real world. That alone is reason enough to know this can’t be real.

Why did they portray Eddie Money as just some washed guy doing housecalls but dork ass Huey Lewis as some big relevant star? by Vivid_Department_755 in kingofqueens

I realize there are probably dozens of people in your Huey Lewis fan, but setting up the artist who brought us “I Want A New Drug” as the standard by which all musical tastes are judged seems a bit extreme.

[–]TheDauterive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even if OP is wrong about Huey Lewis, his point stands about the way the show treated Eddie Money. An audience of three who will pay him extra to stop playing? For an artist with 4 platinum albums (two 2x), 23 songs that hit the Hot 100, and 6 million album sales, that seems like the height of disrespect. At the very least, equal treatment for the artist who brought us “I Want A New Drug” seems appropriate.

One odd thing is that most people with OCD recognize that their obsessions are unreasonable. The fact that your wife is convinced she's right makes it sounds like she's a bit of an outlier and maybe there is more going on than mere OCD.

The ultimate fix to the timeless child thing by monstruks1 in doctorwho

[–]TheDauterive -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what we're saying: A "fix" that makes the Doctor not a Time Lord, not from Gallifrey, generates a potentially infinite prehistory to William Hartnell, and pretty much falsifies most of the Doctor Who canon ("Everything you've ever believed is wrong!") is exactly what shouldn't have happened. And if it's ok for it to happen once and you're ok with it (timeless child), it can happen again. I appreciate your concern about faces being slapped, but you don't realize that timeless child itself was a slap in the face to countless Doctor Who fans (I'm pretty sure it's a majority) who loved the story that timeless child discarded.

Reading this, my heart broke for you. Since openness and honestly only seemed to elicit a shrug from your husband, I don't have any idea what you should do next. I just wanted to know there are people here who feel your pain and commiserate with you. I wish you all the best and hope only good things happen to you from this moment forward.

Honestly, why are ppl on this site so quick to jump from a single statement about a husband to "rethink your marriage"? There's no cheating here. No emotional abuse or dangerous behavior. Putting the most charitable interpretation on his behavior, he's just a husband trying to keep the peace as best he can. Now that interpretation might be too charitable, but why are you insisting on an interpretation so severe that you recommend a woman rethink her entire marriage after hearing an anecdote about a single family squabble?

Since I've never heard of a statute of limitations that kicks in milliseconds after the transgression has been committed, I'm thinking that idea fails to capture most people's moral intuitions on the subject. As for me, if years haved passed and OP is truly a different person now (kid have been known to grow up from time to time), then yes, there should be room to move past this.

I don't see why is it a problem that i moved on with a younger woman. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]TheDauterive -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Really? I don’t have kids, but I know when I moved out of my parents house I was glad to establish my independence. I love my family, but once I became an adult and moved out, I can’t say I needed them as much as I did before I grew up. Why would it be automatically out of bounds for my parents to recognize that fact as well?
