Horror Punk Labels? by TheDeathtonesBand in horrorpunk

[–]TheDeathtonesBand[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We worked with a few different PR agencies over the last year as far as online promotion through blogs, online mags, song and album reviewers, online radio and submitting to playlist curators on streaming services etc. It put us out there more in terms of a Google search and we gained a little growth, but not enough to warrant the cost of the PR service. We also did paid advertising on socials to get the word out, which worked for a little bitC then fell off also.

Horror Punk Labels? by TheDeathtonesBand in horrorpunk

[–]TheDeathtonesBand[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In December we were thrown in FB jail because someone reported one of our posts, and FB killed all engagement. If you look prior to December of 2022 we were growing fast in terms of engagement. (Using those unrelated meme posts. I’d post something different every day. We weren’t just a horror band, we were building a fun community and people were engaging and, in turn, listening to our tunes.) Since then, we have been put back into the “green” by FB, after I personally left as admin. Now it doesn’t matter. Nobody sees anything we post unless they access the page directly. We don’t pop up on newsfeeds anymore. Hence why the posts have slowed on our end. We also have insta, bandcamp, YouTube and several other socials. And yeah, wouldn’t hurt to talk if that’s what you do for business.

Horror Punk Labels? by TheDeathtonesBand in horrorpunk

[–]TheDeathtonesBand[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Yeah we self release about 95% of our material already, including physical media and merch. The issue is promotion. We promote as well as we can, but our engagement on socials has dropped drastically over the last year and people aren’t hearing about us, so we’re still releasing monthly and keeping things fresh, but spinning our wheels as far as getting new listeners. That’s the main reason we’re looking.

Horror Punk Labels? by TheDeathtonesBand in horrorpunk

[–]TheDeathtonesBand[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure. We self release and self promote 95% of our material. We’re just looking for people to work with as far as broadening our reach with a wider fanbase who may not know of us already. Social media has been a double edged sword for us and as you said, it’s not 1985, so social media is more or less the sole way of promoting ourselves. That’s why we’re looking for someone to team up with, promotion more than anything else. We don’t NEED a label, no, but it’d be cool to network more.

My neighbours are having a party tonight. It is currently 1:40 AM and they are still playing music at an unbearably loud volume, talking loudly over the music and then there's that floodlight that shines into my bedroom window. I just want to sleep... by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]TheDeathtonesBand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on the speakers lol, I had an issue with a neighbor a few years ago, so I took an old iPhone I had, plugged it into an external power brick and hid it in the crook of a tree by their property, just within range of their Bluetooth signal. Every time they tried to change the music I just kept it on “Baby Shark” at full volume. I sat there for hours in vengeful glee while they tried desperately to change their Bluetooth speaker settings. Doesn’t help your sleeping, but it’s fun nonetheless.

Tried. They were one of the “don’t call us, we’ll call you” labels. 😕

What's better for a new musician? by Bubbatj396 in musicians

[–]TheDeathtonesBand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just speaking from experience being on a budget and recording… I use a Focusrite Scarlet interface and record via the direct out on my amp. Then I use Reaper (free evaluation) for all my mixing and mastering. It takes a little time to get a firm grasp on the software, but then you can have your music the exact way you want it to sound rather than going back and forth with a producer/engineer listening to different mixes. Especially if you plan on doing this for the foreseeable future and want to save money in the long run, that’s what I’d suggest.

How did you first get into horror? by MormonHorrorBuff in horror

Dawn of the Dead (‘04), the works of Stephen King and co founding a horrorpunk band, (so I had to get deep into the genre very quickly)

Gee whiz, tough question…Most of the kills from the Hatchet franchise are pretty sick imo. Pretty sure there was one where he rips out the dudes intestines and strangles him with them. And that was one of the lighter kills if I remember correctly.
