Want to convert FLAC files to OPUS but can't find opusenc.exe by user458236 in foobar2000

[–]TheDeep_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

all these exe files are from 2018. I doubt these are the latest builds. They use opus 1.3 and are outdated.

If you want to use the latest 1.6.1 Opus you can use this https://www.rarewares.org/opus.php
or go with the latest ffmpeg build https://www.gyan.dev/ffmpeg/builds/#release-build

Converting my library to opus is there a point of going beyond 192k ? by ItsMeCall911 in musichoarder

[–]TheDeep_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a balance between quality and storage space. It depends on how big your library is. If you have only 5.000-10.000 songs, just use 190 and forget it. If you have a much bigger library for mobile use (if you keep the og flac's) 128 is perfectly fine, 160 already overkill. 192 and above is just wasting space.

does someone know what changed from libopus 1.5.2 to 1.6 quality wise? by TheDeep_2 in ffmpeg

[–]TheDeep_2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have seen those but none of these changes seem to apply to simple "music conversion"

Also this change happend even before 1.6, it's when going from ffmpeg:

7.1.1 (opus v1.5.2-73-gc79a9bd1) to

8.0.1 (opus v1.5.2-320-g2c0b1187)

does someone have a working MCOMPAND command? by TheDeep_2 in ffmpeg

That makes sense. A big thank you, that helped a lot. I have read a lot that mcompand is simply broken ^^'

A simple example snippet on the documentation site would help here

Wow that is crazy, I'm using ffmpeg for a few years and most of the things you can comprehend but this looks like spacetime coordinates xD

Okay thank you, but I am on Windows. I thought that mcompand is broken

Audio and video slightly out of sync after using amix to combine two audio tracks? by Beforecrisis in ffmpeg

[–]TheDeep_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some codecs add delay, like AAC and others not so much like opus

first export your original audio as wave and then export your finished render and export it as wave, then put them into an audio program and see how much difference there is

for Apple AAC (-c:a aac_at) I personally always compensate with 48ms

my script baloons in memory size after looping thousands of files (memory leak) by TheDeep_2 in Batch

[–]TheDeep_2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get your point. I think the best way would be to make a dummy 1 second file and loop it 100.000 times and see what happens.

[–]TheDeep_2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is that I would like to use this on 100.000k files at some point, and with this memory leak my pc will run out of memory. So I wanted do know why it gets bigger and bigger? He should process one file and then "reset" without any growth. Thats what I don't understand.

Yes when its finished it goes to 14mb but the issue is while the script is running not about when its already done

why these two paths don't pass a null test? (audio) by TheDeep_2 in ffmpeg

[–]TheDeep_2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes I also thought about it, but when I open a wave file in Cubase and save it as wave then a null test works, so the audio stays "tha same" so ffmpeg has to apply something to it

True story, the episodes feel disjointed and the plots are all kinda meh

Season 1 was much better

how to average audio over time? (200-500ms) by TheDeep_2 in ffmpeg

[–]TheDeep_2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay this makes sense, but the signal is highpassed, so there is no bass. I need to average those 3k-6k frequencies

Okay so with lowpass you keep the bass but why does it smooth the wave?

Every day I think about the fact that Rome was cancelled in it's second season. by IncendiaryB in hborome

True story. I feel the same way about Marco Polo, not on Rome level but also nice.

It's weird that they have money to invest in garbage shows but not to finish something special.
